The Spectrum Friends is a group for Autistic Adults (18 years and older) living in the D.C. area: Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Organized by an Autistic Adult, for Autistic Adults. We are an inclusive group, ALL Autistic diagnoses are welcome. Verbal or Non-speakingALLAutistic adults are welcome to join.
This group is a safe space, it is not a place to find interview subjects or recruits/subjects of any other kind. Our gatherings are meant to be a place where Autistics can truly be themselves around others like them, stims and all and feel at ease. We are in Autistic Space or as near as we can make it. Speaking of stims, stim toys are ALWAYS welcome at our gatherings!
This group is ONLY for Autistic adults, this is not a group for those offering professional services to Autistic adults, Non-Autistic spouses of Autistics, Non-Autistic siblings of Autistic adults, or the Non-Autistic parents of Autistic adults. Non-verbal Learning Disability is similar to Autism, but it is not Autism. ONLY Autistic adults may join this group.
Being an Adult on the Autism Spectrum means that it is harder for us to get to know people and make friends than our Non-Autistic counterparts, the aim of this group is to make it easier in a more relaxed atmosphere where you can be yourself, stims and all! Eye contact is not essential to be part of this group; all you need is a desire to do neat things!
