Who We Are

If you love being active and spending time outdoors – this group is for you! Check out our past and future events, you will see that we organize some that are very unique and not offered by anybody else in the area… So join us for some fun!

The main focus of the group is spending as much time outdoors as possible participating in many diverse activities. Some of the activities we enjoy include: hiking, camping, bike riding (road, rail trails, mountain, and touring), canoeing and kayaking, backpacking, geocaching, and orienteering. Our events are hosted all over the Metro Detroit area, Michigan, and other states. In the winter we are still outside participating in winter sports like snowshoeing, xc skiing, downhill skiing, and we continue hiking. We also occasionally throw in some cultural events like visiting museums, going to exhibits, movies, etc. From time to time, we also just meet at a restaurant to socialize.

Most meetups are adult events ONLY, unless otherwise stated in the event description.

The $5 annual fee is mandatory and needs to be paid by the time your 60-day trial ends and you sign up for an event, or when you decide to participate in an overnight event. It is also non-refundable. It will be used to offset the group running and other costs.



Organizers/Leaders

Your organizers/leaders are not paid guides. We are volunteers, and we do what we love and in the process take you to some of our favorite places.


Personal Responsibility

Each participant is responsible for his/her own safety and needs to accurately judge whether they are fit for the activity that they plan to sign up to participate in. Each participant needs to carefully check the event description, which usually provides details regarding a hike or bike ride distance, the pace or the rate of speed, and skills required.

All participants of biking events are required to wear a helmet.

All participants of canoing / kayaking events are required to wear a personal flotation device (PFD).


Basic Guidelines


  • Please update your rsvp if you decided NOT to participate in the event. It is as easy as your initial rsvp. We do not want to have everybody waiting thinking that you might be late. The repeated offenders will be marked as "no-show". Three "no-shows" will result in person being removed from the group!
  • Arrive on time for the event. This is essential, as there are often many people participating in an event and it is not fair to them to have to wait. Additionally, we are trying to adhere to a schedule that the participants use to plan their participation in the event.
  • Dress appropriately: appropriate footwear, water, snack, sunscreen / insect repellant, hat, rain gear, helmet, spare tube/tire, tools, etc. Inappropriate clothing or gear might make you uncomfortable and might not allow you to enjoy the activity. It may affect others’ enjoyment and may put you and them in danger.
  • Be aware that a two hour hike can take considerably longer even without unexpected delays, so plan accordingly.
  • In order NOT to interfere with others’ enjoyment of our natural environment, please leave all electronic/communications gear at home. Cell phones should be silenced and used for emergencies only.
  • If you need a bathroom/water/snack/rest break, let the leader know so the whole group stops and avoid leaving you behind.
  • If you are falling behind, call up to the person ahead to get the leader to stop/slow down.
  • Adhere to the rules and regulations of the park where the event is held.


Children


The group’s events are organized for and geared towards adults. While we enjoy children, because many of our events are geared towards adults they cover much longer distances and at paces that often kids could not maintain. Therefore, if you want to bring your children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces who are minors, please read the event page carefully, as it will state whether event is family friendly and kids are allowed.


Pet Policy

While we love animals and many of us own pets, we have decided that generally, we do not want them with us on our meetup events. Why? … Other members of our group may not be comfortable with your pet in attendance and pets can cause disruptions when interacting with other people and animals. Therefore, please check the event description for pet policy. When pets are allowed and welcome, it will be clearly stated in the event description. Otherwise, they are prohibited.
