Saturday Eve Hike - Kensington

Meet in front of the Nature Center at 4:45. Hike to start promptly at 5:00.

Hike will cancel for foul weather. Check the calendar before leaving for the hike. Hike will cancel no later than 3 p.m. on the day of the hike, thus providing ample notification.

Dress for the weather. Highly suggest hiking boots or the like with ankle support and solid toes. Terrain is easy, but stumps and rocks are hidden under the leaves. If you are not sure footed, trekking poles are suggested.

Although we'll hike whenever feasible without lighting, it's wise to bring a headlamp or flashlight for moonless or overly cloudy nights. I strongly recommend a red light setting. You'll still be able to see the ground, but you won't kill yours or anyone else's night vision.

For anyone interested, we'll head over to the Kensington Grill 30712 Lyon Center Dr, New Hudson, MI 48165

For safety purposes a minimum of 4 hikers is needed for this trip to run.

I have another scheduled event earlier in the day...don't know exactly when I will be able to get to Kensington. Is there a set route you guys will take, so I can find you if I arrive late?

We'll probably go around the lake first. Other than that, no, there isn't a set path. It's very difficult to locate people in the dark. So, I would say if you don't think you'll make it on time, update your RSVP so I know not to expect you.

I should be there on time...just trying to cover the possibility. It is unlikely I'll be able to update, though, my internet access is limited away from home. Certainly don't wait on me - if I am late, I'll try to find you, but if not, no worries.

Hi, Kelly. Would it be possible to share information about the number of miles you plan to cover, and the approximate pace of the hike (mph)? Thanks for considering! :)

Pace is moderate. We seem to stay around 2.8 mph. Distance depends on what the group wants. This time of year weather is more of a factor. And, I take a quick concensus of how long we want to hike. I'd say the typical decision is 1.5 - 2 hours (aka 4-5 miles). But, while on trail we pause for group discussion from time to time. As, if too many members are cold, I'm going to modify as necessary... same if most want to add distance/time.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
