Holly Recreation Area Hike

Let's go for a hike to the Holly Recreation Area. We will be hiking about 6.5 miles at the moderately fast pace.

We will meet in the picnic area indicated on the map below.

Map to the meeting location: http://files.meetup.com/1765380/Holly%20Rec%20Area%20Meeting%20Place.pdf

You get there by following the park road south of Mc Ginnis Rd. The sign on the main park road directing to the parking lot says: "Wilderness Trailhead/Overlook/Shelter". The trail marker right by the parking lot is No. 18.

Here is the trail map: http://www.michigandnr.com/Publications/PDFS/RecreationCamping/Holly_trails.pdf

A Recreation Passport is required.

In case of inclement weather the hike will be cancelled and the website will be updated few hours before. Therefore, check the page before leaving.

After the hike we will go to eat, drink and socialize at River Rock Bar & Grill just down the road from the park at 15100 Dixie Hwy, Holly.

Hope to see you there,

Rich

Lovely hike for my first meet-up with AQ. Perfect timing with the weather. It was great meeting you all.

I felt invigorated after the hike. Great group... I took Dixie south to 75 and managed to miss the road ice even though the exterior of my car was coated in ice. Go figure...

I'm glad I (barely) made it as I have not been to Holly in years but enjoyed the hike. Dinner afterward was good, though I almost didn't stay after noticing rain. The ice diminished after driving south a while on I-75, but I heard there were accidents further north.

Hope everyone arrived home safely. That ice was nasty! Conditions were not as bad in Auburn Hills, so I ended up in Bald Mountain South for my night hike...another 4.5 miles or so. Probably better anyway, I know the trails well and there are relatively few hills. Given the icy trails, mild inclines are a definite plus. Was a great group! Look forward to hiking with you all again.

No problem. See you next time... It must have been pretty good bike ride, if you are sore...

It was a decent ride, but for some reason my feet are killing me.

Rich, there are 10+ folks signed up to hike at the same place, same time with the Outdoor Edge meetup led by Kevin Cotter with a different spot for afterglow. Suggest we consolidate somehow!

    • Rich

Yes, let's do it, if Kevin doesn't mind...
