Less Whine, More Wine Bike Ride in Lexington

  • Jun 7, 2014 · 9:00 AM
  • Old Town Hall Winery

While planning my rides and races for 2014, I came across the Less Whine, More Wine ride in Lexington. I rode this with a friend last year and it was a fun early season ride that is suitable for our riding group. The ride is organized by long-time member of our group Evon, who many of you know...

The ride has 12, 32 and 55 mile routes on rural, slightly rolling paved roads. Registration starts at 10:00 AM (9:00 for 55 mile route) with the ride beginning at 11:00 (10:00 for 55 mile route). The ride includes lunch in a park on Lake Huron (very scenic park set in the woods on the bluff overlooking the lake) and a wine tasting afterwards. If wine isn't your preferred post-ride recovery food, there is an ice cream shop just south of town.

We can meet at the Lowes parking lot on Rochester Road south of Auburn at 9:00 AM and carpool ourselves and bikes up to Lexington.

If you decide to participate, you need to register for the ride on the BikeMich website. Please, also rsvp here, so we have an idea who is going and can coordinate going as a group. Entry fee is $25 before May 31.

Here is a link to the ride website for information and registration: http://www.bikemich.com/

    Hi Bill,

The funny thing is that I got an email 2 days ago from a representative of Lexington asking if we had any problems with the road because the DPW had cleaned the road in anticipation of our ride! Its amazing to me how cooperative and enthusiastic Lexington is when it comes to accommodating our ride. So, yes, the roadkill will be cleared for our ride. : )

Next year, Evon, would you be kind enough to clear the roadkill before the ride?

  • Bill F

Fun ride, Evon. It was very well done and everyone looked like they had fun.

looks like fun gang, This will be my first bike ride in forever. Will an old mountain style bike work or do I need to go out and buy a new Trek Madone 7? am considering 32m distance... -Al

    • Rich

This is NOT a race, so you don't need Trek Madone, although there probably will be somebody there riding one...

Thanks for the input guys. I did do a single ride last summer (Saginaw to St. Charles rail trail) with commute to and from my house it was just 25 mi. I'll see what the morning brings! -A

    • Rich

No it's not too late. You can even register tomorrow at the ride. But then it's cash only! Read the details @ BikeMich website (link above).

Jim and I will need to drive solo to Lexington. We'll see you there.

Absent any expressed interest, we'll meet up in Lexington tomorrow morning. Great weather!

I checked everyone's hometown and noted no one near me so I plan on riding solo to Lexington. I also expect I won't be heading for home until around 5:00, so that might not work with anyone who might want to leave sooner. Hope to meet/see you there.

Hi everyone. I'm looking forward to the ride, Saturday. I am sure Evon and her peeps did another great job of pulling this together. If anyone is interested in doubling up to carpool, let me know. Otherwise, we can simply meet in Lexington at the DQ parking lot. I hope to ride the 55 mile ride, but personal commitments may force me to ride the 32.

    See y'all Saturday!

    Anybody riding 55 miles?

    June 2, 2014

    • Rod

I plan in it Rich, but not at your speed, I'm sure.

      June 4, 2014

    • Bill F

I hope to ride the 55, Rich. It depends on other commitments during the day for me, though.
