Camp/Hike Angeles National Forest

Let's welcome in the first day of summer!  We'll have 2 group campsites at Meadow Group Campgrounds in the Angeles National Forest (about an hour and a half north of LA). The sites do not have electric or showers, but they do have restroom facilities, drinking water, 13 grills, 13 fire rings, 13 picnic tables, paved parking for 20 vehicles, and accommodates up to 100 people, but I'm keeping the number to 60, so carpooling may not be necessary.  These adjacent sites are large and the only two sites on the campgrounds, so we won't have noisy neighbors, just those within the group :-P

The hiking trailheads are a quarter mile away with great views throughout.  We'll be doing the Chilao: Silver Moccasin Trail. For those that may rock climb, there is a spot along one of the trails where climbers frequent to belay on..  The hike isn't mandatory, but if you choose to join, we'll head up around 3pm. If you're an early morning hiker, we can do a second hike Sunday morning for those who wish to join.

Both sites are already paid for, so all you need to bring is your own camping/hiking gear, firewood, food, drinks and a :)  A combination for the lock at the gate will be provided to those attending. Arrive around 2 pm Saturday 6/21, and checkout is 11:00 am Sunday.

Happy TGIF everyone! It’s going to be another awesomely bright and warm day in So Cal tomorrow, so remember to bring enough water, sun screen, and a hat. It’s also going to be a cool night, so it would be a good idea to throw in a light jacket or fleece. Here is a quick checklist of some essentials:

Tent, sleeping bag or blankets, pillow, cooler/ice, lantern/flashlight, soap, toiletries, food/snacks, cooking utensils, extra batteries, charcoal, camp chair, firewood, and of course cold beverages to enjoy around the campfire :) There will be others joining us from another meetup group, so there will be around 12-15 of us so far.

I have plenty of paper plates, cups, eating utensils, trash bags, and paper towels so you won’t need to bring unless you have a preference. Looking forward to meeting everyone tomorrow!
