Big Four Ice Caves Snowshoe

Hello - this will be a good beginners, easy snowshoe for those who want to try it out. Or those who just want their snow fix :) It's 7 miles round trip and about an hour and a half north of Seattle.

The hike should take us about 3.5 hours at a leisurely pace. I like to take pictures too, so allowing for that. Bring snow shoes, poles (optional), warm clothes, water, camera and gators if you have them.

When rsvp'ing, please comment if you are a driver. We will figure out rides at the park and ride.

The hike sounds beautiful, looking forward to it! See the link below to read all about it!

I don't know if anybody else from this group made it up there but I had a great time (my first snowshoeing trip). I tried the snowshoe from the gate to the Picnic area then took them off. I did how ever wore my shoe chain up to the Ice Caves and back to the car. You would have been fine without the snowshoe if you stayed on the trails (the snow was firm enough to walk on) even after it snowed on the way back to the car. I posted some pics for the group.

Hot off the press - someone I know did the hike last Sunday. He drove up in his bmw, no problem. But the road is closed about 3 miles before the trail head - that's why the hike is so much longer. Also, the caves are covered, which is typical this time of year, but still a gorgeous hike! So sounds like most cars, if not all, will work. See everyone Saturday!

Would love to go, but I made other plans while I was on the wait list. Hopefully next time!

Anybody have any room in a car for me? Or perhaps we can figure it out at the P&R on Saturday. Somehow I set notifications to off so I missed a lot of these conversations.

I must wait for the next one when I have snowshoes and gators which unfortunately is not yet!

Just want to confirm that I have Amanda, John S, and Kathy riding with me. If so, my car is full. One question- are we meeting at the park & ride at 9:30 and leaving from there? Probably a dumb question- just wanted to make sure.

    February 13, 2013

    • Am_anda

Yup, correct on both! Thanks again Casey.

Hi Joan- I'd love to have you, but my car is full this time.

      February 13, 2013

  • Joan

I'd love to join a carpool...if we open it up to more hikers. I could lead a group heading out about 15 minutes later, I've done it before, but I'd prefer to go up together and then our group could wait at the picnic shelter and head up 15 minutes later.

I can drive, but does anyone have a NW Forest Pass that is required for parking?

Drivers wise - I see Casey (full car), Lorri (maybe you co-lead? Thanks for offering) and that's it? Anyone else able to drive?
Also, welcome Jessica! Hopefully you will get to go. I've seen so many change their reply closer to the day, you may be in luck.

I'm still on the waiting list but I want to go so badly and I'm more than willing too drive,,, I can carry 3 passengers in my Rav.

      February 10, 2013

  • Am_anda

Hi Alex - welcome to the group! I have done one before, it's pretty basic. This is an easy one to learn on if it's your first time. Larissa - just saw your message, sorry you are not feeling well. If someone else wants to lead, everything can remain the same, we just stagger the start times. Let me know and I can open up the wait list or we'll just plan another time. Please update your rsvp as the week goes on.

  • Alex H.

    Hey guys-

I'm new to this group. Just joined a week ago. Very interested in making this my first meetup with this group. Has anyone here ever done a snowshoe before?

    February 9, 2013

  • Am_anda

I was thinking about that Yvonne and thanks for suggesting Larissa! If you are willing to lead a group and stagger 15 mins or so behind, that works. Rule of thumb is 1 leader to 12. I'm sure people will cancel closer to the time but love giving people a chance to come. Wanna co-lead Larissa?

    February 4, 2013

  • Yvonne E.

With so many people waitlisted, is anyone qualified to lead another group for the same day?

    February 4, 2013

  • Vivien L.

Hi all, I will need a ride as well. No one wants to see me drive in snow.

I got an email that I'm on the waiting list for this hike... I would love to go and would love to carpool - in the event I get onto the list of folks who are going. This is my first meet up event - still figuring out how it all works!

    February 3, 2013

  • Am_anda

Thanks Casey! I'm sure there will be other drivers too, please mention if you have a car and are willing to drive. I'm glad you're giving it a go Kathy! Judith - I'd like to just keep this to snowshoes, we may not even need them depending on the snow level that week. If you're on the skis we won't really stay in the group. Another time...

    February 3, 2013

  • Casey

Kathy- it's my first too, and I have two spots left in my car. Let me know if you'd like to carpool with me.

    February 2, 2013

Hi Casey, do have room for me?

      February 3, 2013

    • Casey

Hi everyone! John- you snagged the last spot. Sorry G & Gene- I wish I had a bigger car :)
