Evening Hike: Boulder Garden Loop and Little Mt Si

On this hike, we will look down at the lights of North Bend. This is a great short hike. On the way up Little Si, we will take the Boulder Garden Loop trail to visit some secret ledges if it's not storming.

Then we will loop back down to the Little Si trail and then summit Little Si. This is about a 6.5 mile loop with about a 1600 foot gain total. With a couple nice breaks, we should be back to the parking lot about 9:00 p.m.

**What to Bring**

1. Extra clothing including a hat and rain jacket 2. A good flash light or head lamp. Most of this hike will be in the dark. 3. Dinner or good trail snack. 4. Boots. This trail is muddy in places.

I want to say thanks to everyone for saying "hi" to Tanny. She really loves attention. A special "thank you" goes out to the "Event Host" of this hike and to the "Drivers" and "Riders" who made carpooling so easy.

    Happy Trails.

It was fun. Brent was a great organizer and guide. The group was very friendly and I think everyone had a great time. Also, we couldn't have asked for better weather.

Is it possible to still get a ride? I live on Capitol Hill but can bus or get dropped off somewhere close.

Anybody still have room in their car?

    February 15, 2013

    • Jeff

From what I understand, Derek has room for one person in his vehicle. You may want to contact him and see if he still has room.

Sorry, not going anymore. Bad planning on my part! I will definitely plan better next time! I hope you guys have a great time!

    Carpools have been assigned for:

    Brenda,
    Larissa,
    Jessica,
    Allan,
    Joanne

...please check your e-mail for info/updates. Derek is driving up on his own, so he doesn't need a ride.

    February 15, 2013

  • Jeff

I'm e-mailing Brenda (in S Everett), Larissa (in Bellevue), Jessica (in Bellevue) Allan (in Seattle) and Joanne & Derek (in Bothell/Kirkland) my contact info. I'll do me best to coordinate carpools between the 7 of us.

Thanks Jeff; I just emailed you, hoping for a ride; where should we meet? My cell is[masked]; Bellevue P&R would be ideal for me; is that good for you? I know you're coming from Woodinville.

I can't get off work early as I had planned. Have fun.

I'm coming from Woodinville. Anyone need a ride?...or if you have room for my dog and I, we can carpool with you. Let me know.

    February 14, 2013

    • Allan C

Joanne; do you have room for a passenger? I could meet you at the Eastgate P&R at 4:20.

    Charly and Jessica!
Thanks for the ride offers! It sounds like there are a few folks in need of a ride. My recommendations to meet: Downtown Seattle- any location, or Mercer Park & Ride, or Bellevue Park & Ride. Thoughts?

Well, I missed out on the conversations. I am coming from S. Everett. Not sure who is coming from where. Anyone have an opening?

    February 14, 2013

  • Deanna M.

Do we just park at the Little Si parking lot? There's no problem with it closing at dusk is there? Wasn't sure and wanted to check I've never done an evening hike

    February 9, 2013

    • Derek

I was wondering about this too. The normal Mt. Si parking area has always stayed open well into the night; the gates at Rattlesnake and Tiger close early. I don't know what the lock-in policy for Little Si is.

      February 14, 2013

  • Jezanna

Alas, I am not going to make this hike after all. I hope you all have a blast!

    February 13, 2013

Anna and Garbo: you are welcome to ride with me if you still need a ride. Let me know and we'll pick a spot to meet

      Sure. Sounds good to me

Dogs are welcome and allowed on leash at Mt. Si.

    February 11, 2013

  • Jezanna

Are dogs allowed on this hike? I'm not even sure I'd bring mine, but if I do, I can give folks rides from Seattle. (Otherwise I'm coming from Olympia!)

I am hoping to bring my dog too, Jezanna! So I hope so! :)

    Hi Brian,
Your running shoes will be fine for the hike. No problem.
    See you Friday!

    1 · February 10, 2013

Thanks for your reply Brent! See you on Friday!

      February 10, 2013

  • anick

Brian I almost never wore anything else but lightweight running or cross trainer shoes and I do tons of hiking, the worse that's going to happen is you will have wet muddy shoes so bring a plastic bag and a change of shoes for the ride home!

    February 10, 2013

    • Brian E. M.

Thanks for the advice Anick and Larissa. I'll bring my sturdy pair of cross trainer shoes and hope for the best! :)

I don't own a pair of hiking boots and can't buy a pair before this hike. Will a good pair of running shoes suffice with extra-warm socks?

    February 10, 2013

  • Deanna M.

This sounds like a great evening hike! I will meet you all at the trailhead since I live in Snoqualmie.

    February 9, 2013

I'd love to pitch in for gas and grab a ride from downtown Seattle; I can grab a bus and meet in a more convenient location as well. I don't have a car so I'd love to make it easy on folks.
    Thanks!

  • Derek

Tentative yes, if it's not dumping down rain.

    February 9, 2013

  • Brent D.

This hike is rain or shine. Weatherwise, I would only cancel a hike for strong winds since it's a hazard with falling branches.

I am unable to make the time as I work in Redmond until at least 4:30 and sometimes as late as 6:30. Another time!! Thanks!

Hi! Is anyone coming from Downtown Seattle or near the Bellevue Park & Ride? I am seeking a ride and will pitch in for gas!

    February 4, 2013

  • Steve

Anick, take 18 up to I-90 and follow the rest of the directions below:

    Driving Directions:
From Seattle drive east on I-90 to exit 32 (436th Avenue SE). Turn left (north) over the freeway and drive 0.5 mile to North Bend Way. Turn left (west), and in 0.25 mile turn right (north) on Mount Si Road. Shortly after crossing the bridge, the road banks right. Just after this curve, look for a paved parking area on the left side of the road (if you get to the intersection with 444th Avenue SE, you've gone too far).
