Lake Caroline (choice 1) or Ingalls Lake (depends on permits/weather)

There are four permits available for Monday, but I will not reserve them until I get a firm count.  They cost $13 per person!  For five people it's $75!!!  Unless you truly intend to go, do not sign up.  Be prepared to reimburse me if you sign up; then drop out at the last minute!!!

Forecast:  hot weather but be prepared for cold.

Carpooling:  Please be aware that YOU are responsible to get yourself to the appointed meeting place and time.  We carpool from there.

Please note:  I have NOT done this trail before so I cannot be considered your expert leader.  I make every effort to check for current trail conditions, but often there are no reports so I do not guarantee anything about the trip!

REMINDER:  PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP IF YOU ARE NOT IN GOOD SHAPE/HAVE NO BACKPACKING EXPERIENCE.  THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER TRIP!

Lake Caroline/Windy Pass is my first choice.  NO dogs allowed on this trail.  I can't be sure we can secure permits as it is considered to be in the Enchantments although it is not the main Enchantments trail.

The plan: Backpack about 7 miles with 3000 gain (so not so easy - be sure you're in shape to do this please) to Little Lake Caroline (guidebook says the camping is better there than at Lake Caroline - guess it depends on permits also).  Set up camp.  Day 2:  10 miles or so roundtrip over Windy Pass to Trout Lake and back - looks like some elevation gain/loss.  Day Three:  drop off backpacks at intersection with Eightmile Lake - about two miles roundtrip off the main trail and explore over there; head out early enough to avoid commuter traffic through Monroe.

If that's a no go, Ingalls Lake would be choice two (no dogs allowed - carpool meetup location could change).  It is in the Teanaway.  I have been there as a day hike and would love to spend a night up there.  We would spend one night; then come down and car camp along the river and hike up Koppen Mtn or Miller Peak as those are the two hikes up there I have yet to do.  Both are supposed to have fabulous views.  If that happens, please bring some wood for car camping if you can.  I should be able to decide the week of July 15 so we'd know what we're doing.

Bring: backpacking supplies, food for two nights out, Forest Service parking pass required for parking at the trailhead, money for gas to carpool drivers, prepare for cold at night/hot during day, bugs

Carpool:  Please make comments if you want to carpool to my house.  We will definitely carpool from my house.  I'm right off of Highway 2.  If you are coming from somewhere out of the way from my house, please meet at the trailhead or ?   Make comments about that please!

What a beautiful trip! And good company. Thank you both for a great experience.

Crap! I just noticed this on my calendar!! You probably won't even get this message! From your message below, it looks like you didn't take me seriously. I hope not! Apparently I signed up a long time ago and didn't mark it on my calendar. So, so, sorry!!

Let me know if I owe you any money.

PS I sent out lots of messages so I did my best to get ahold of you.

I am so happy to hear that you counted me out. Again, I apologize. It's easy for me to miss messages because I get so many from meetup. Hope you had a good time.

Gorgeous - one of the those incredible views/flower meadows that just take your breath away. It was worth contending with mosquitos and the heat! Thanks for the great company Ahmis and Tom!

When the group is bigger, I usually spread my asking if I can borrow out amongst the throng but seeing how everyone is sharing on this one then I'm thinking I might turn out to be a pain when there may only be one or two stoves and/or water sterilizers being brought on this trip. What do you think?

    July 20, 2013

    • Kelly

Although I could probably still get a ride from Ahmis as she is picking up in Seattle but still, I've nothing to share so I'll cancel now under the pressure of having just gotten home and you needing to know/print.

      July 21, 2013

    • Kari

Unfortunately, it did not allow me to change this close to the event so I had to pay for four.

      July 22, 2013

  • Kelly

Kari, I think I'm going to cancel out of this one as I don't have anything to sterilize or filter my water with, nor do I have a stove.

    • Kari

PS Don't forget to change your RSVP to "No" if you are 100% not going.

      July 21, 2013

    • Kelly

Yeah, I hope not either. I thought I would be able to get the above-mentioned materials but I have not had the time and without a car, it's just not as easy for me to get around to shop. It takes so much more effort and time by bus. Just got home and just now noticed your 7pm deadline below and having computer troubles and trying to beat your deadline. Don't print anything yet.

If I haven't had a confirmation e-mail or call [masked]) by Sunday 7 p.m., I will change and print my permit. Once it's printed, no-one can be added/deleted. I assume that anyone who doesn't respond to comments and e-mails isn't coming!

    July 21, 2013

    • Kari

So far, no word at all from Laura or Quy so I'm assuming they're out. Kelly's probably out if she can't get a ride.

      July 21, 2013

  • Ahmis

I'll be headed from the west and can pick up in Seattle. I'm also able to drive, although I don't have the largest SUV.

    July 16, 2013

    • Kari

I can drive from my house but don't really want to do so due to gas cost. Ahmis, we can meet at my house. I don't care who drives, but I do appreciate not driving since I usually am the one who has to do so.

      July 21, 2013

    • Kari

Ahmis: Please plan on coming from Edmonds to my house. You don't need to go out of your way to get people! Also, I have plenty of room at my house if you'd like to overnight here tonight. You can stay in my daughter's room as she isn't living here right now.

I purchased a permit for four for $60. I did not print it as the site said changes could be made as long as it was not printed out so I hope that is true.

    July 19, 2013

    • Kari

Tom: I was out of internet range for the past three days. I have a permit for four currently, and it looks like Kelly will drop out if she doesn't have a ride from Seattle. Confirm with me today (Sun)[masked] OR via comment here.

might be nice if we can figure out a way to share equipment so we can disperse some of the weight - rather than everyone carrying everything for themselves

    July 15, 2013

    • Kari

PS I can bring a tent for you. I just haven't heard from Quy or Kelly if they can share tents. I have a small two-person one - quite cozy so hoping someone has a better two-person option.

      July 18, 2013

    • Kari

I will stick a couple tents in the car. We can figure it out at the trailhead - as in divying up weight.

There are still 4 permits left. I may just take a chance on waiting until Sunday, but I really want to go to this location so I'd hate to do that. It looks like if I don't print it, I can make changes to it until the last minute so I may just go out on a limb and get one for 4 = $60. I hope I can change it if more people confirm they are going. So far, the only ones in contact the past 24 hours who seem serious about going: Kelly, Becky, Kari, Ahmis so that's why I'll get a permit for four. It seems we can change it Sunday if necessary OR latecomers can buy their own permit. I rather doubt all will be gone.

  • Quy

Would anyone be coming from Seattle that I can carpool with?

    July 16, 2013

    • Kari

Ahmis says she can pick up people in Seattle. Please contact her by clicking on Members; then her name.

      July 18, 2013

    • Kari

She did say she'd be out of contact range until Sat. evening. Do you have a car? If so, we are carpooling from Snohomish for sure.

      July 19, 2013

  • Kari

DIRECTIONS: If the Seattle group does not want to come to Snohomish to meet me and the person who says she'll drive from Snohomish does not end up going, I may want to meet the Seattle group somewhere so I don't have to drive the entire way alone - gas is expensive so this could change Sunday afternoon!!! Otherwise, I'll plan on Becky and I meeting all of you at the trailhead. Take Highway 2 to just entering Leavenworth. Take an immediate right on Icicle Road (gas station on corner there). Drive 8.5 miles to Eightmile Creek. Take a left. Drive up 3 miles to the trailhead. (It will say Eightmile Lake.)

    July 19, 2013

  • Kelly

Anyone coming from West Seattle that I may be able to catch a ride with please?

    July 18, 2013

    • Kari

Kelly: Contact Ahmis. She posted below that she can take people from Seattle and says she's headed from the west so I think she's a good bet.

I hiked Koppen Mtn. last year, and it was fantastic. Of course, this means I'd rather do Miller Peak (something new). Would Lake Caroline be a one-day trip?

    June 18, 2013

    • Kari

This will be a backpacking trip. The road to Miller Peak TH won't be open until Fall 2013 according to the sign on the road when we went there last week. Lake Caroline is a totally different area, but someone said that it might be inaccessible due to fire damage from last year. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet. As the event gets closer, I'll start investigating conditions, etc.

      June 19, 2013

    • Kari

Laura: Are you still planning on going since you asked about a day trip???

      July 18, 2013

  • Kari

This event is one week away. Let's start making comments about carpooling. If my house is on your way anyway, please meet there. I'd like to ride since for months I have been the one driving long distances for various groups. I would like a break this month - at least I'd like to be part of a carpool as individual gas is sooo expensive. Thanks! There are three groups which we will try to merge together.

I will be on a backpacking trip Tues - Thurs this week - no cell service likely; then home for very short time before another trip Fri - Sun so planning this may be a bit last minute on Sunday. Help is appreciated :D.

Was up at Ingall's Lake yesterday: snow level ~ 4500', but consolidated.

We were near there - went to Bean Peak and Medras Pass/Koppen Mtn. trail. I looked over at Ingalls :D.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
