Mason Lake and Defiance Mountain Loop Hike

It's the perfect time of year to do Defiance Mountain. This is about 10 mile round trip with a 3,600 foot gain. It's steep in places. I consider this a strenuous hike.

From the Meetup point at Sno Valley Coffee, let's car pool as much as possible. It's about a 25-minute drive from Sno Valley Coffee to the Ira Spring trailhead. This involves driving on a dirt road for about 4 miles near the trailhead. I have room for four people in my truck. Northwest Trails Pass is required at the trailhead.

To start, we will take the old Mason Lake trail then summit Defiance Mountain. On our return trip, we will take the new Ira Spring trail back to create our loop hike. The berries are starting to come our too. We will be on the lookout.

Lot's of bugs right now too. Bring the bug repellent and even a head net to get some relief.

Be sure to bring plenty of water also.

Let's go hiking!

Sorry for the late cancellation. I just got back and realized I have too many things to take care of this weekend. Hopefully somebody on the waiting list can still jump on.

Hi there Tina, has your car filled up yet? If not I would like to join.

Daniel, I don't see you on the attending list. You can join me if Brent gives you the OK. He limits the # of people due to requirements of the NW Forest Service.

I see that the wait list for this event is currently at 11 people. I am wondering it makes sense to form two groups for this hike and if anyone can lead the second group.

    July 10, 2013

    • Jaihoon

I would be happy to drive from Seattle-Belltown.

      July 10, 2013

    • Eych

So, is there another group, maybe the waiting list, going for a hike this Sunday?

      July 12, 2013

  • Dave W.

I could lead a group only I would be doing Putrid Pete's direct and then Defiance. Hiking through Mason Lake on the old trail. I don't know which of the wait list people could handle the steepness of Putrid Pete's.

    July 10, 2013

    • Jaihoon

I think with a moderate pace I could do it. I am not completely sure how steep is Putrid Pete. For those who are interested here is the link http://www.wta.org/go....
