Chirico Trail to Poo Poo Point

The Chirico Trail provides the shortest and easiest hike to two of the finest vistas anywhere in the Issaquah Alps, including spectacular Poo Poo Point. If the wind is right, we may see paragliders soaring off Poo Poo Point. At the extreme western end, however, an unusually steep drop-off at Poo Poo Point provides good views and a great place for dinner. Views overlook Issaquah, Lake Sammamish, and Tiger Mt 2 and 3.

Length: 1.8 miles one way
Variety: Out and back
Elevation Gain: 1650
Difficulty: moderate
Trail Open to: Hikers, Dogs on Leash
Passes Permits: None
Maps: Green Trails #204S Tiger Mountain

Driving Directions: I-90, exit 17 south, go through Issaquah on Front Street, which turns into Issaquah-Hobart Road. 3 miles South of town you’ll see an open field on the left, with the parking lot for the paragliders’ field.

Bring dinner and your camera also. These are some of the best views around Issaquah.

    Hey Brent,
I am dependent on my ride. For now I think we're not coming but if Mark decides to go, I'll join too. Just thought you should know. Thanks.

Plan for rain, maybe heavy. There is also a chance of thunder storms. I will be monitoring the weather today to keep everyone advised.

If anyone is interested in a tandem paraglider flight down I can probably arrange for some tandem pilots to meet the group on top and fly you down if the weather is suitable. Message me directly if you are interested.

Steven, hopefully you worked this out beforehand with the hike organizers, and if so, pardon for intruding. But my issue with many meetup folks (not just this trip, and not just this group) who sign up to participate in a trip but then start inserting their own "add ons" to a trip, which the organizers have already laid out to happen according to a particular plan. Organizers may not have to do a lot to prepare for some events, but they may have done a lot of planning for some outings. In addition, the organizers have taken responsibility to commit to a date, time, and place in advance, while the rest of us can join or not as we please. If folks want to do a trip in a different manner, then go ahead and organize your own hike/event.

And I'm not casting dispersions on folks who want to do the paragliding, which sounds fun. It just didn't seem to be what this hike was about.

Thanks for organizing Brent, and sorry to pull out. With such a large group, plus thunderstorms in the forecast, it's enough to encourage me to stay home and get caught up on work.

Hey! Can anyone give me a ride from the Fremont/Ballard area OR from Downtown? I'll of course throw in some $ for gas.

Hi Marjorie, your welcome to ride with me. I live in Cap Hill but work downtown and would be taking my car straight after work that day.I'd leave downtown 4:15ish most likely

Is anyone going from the Redmond area? I will be working in Bellevue and with no car (just bike and bus it) now.

Roughly where in Bellevue is your work? I just joined the waiting list and can drive, though my lil' truck can only hold 2 comfortably. Seems like we should be able to find at least one other person to give gas money to with room for four, heh.

Hi, I'll drive from Redmond. You're welcome to ride with me if you want.

Lynn just take your bike with you and get on the 550 to mercer island. Then take the 554 to Issaquah get off in front of the police station and take the bike path south past the community center, past the skate park, past the issy school dist bus barn, all the way to the pump house on Hobart. Stay on the east side of Hobart and you will go by a little suburban goat farm! Take the side road to the left and go right at the T and you will go past a suburban chicken farm! Ask the owners how to get to the side roads to the big suburban lama farm! And a 10 minute ride south is the landing field at poo poo point!
