Overnight Backpack: Thorp Lake and Thorp Mt Lookout

Thorp Lake is located in the Salmon la Sac area in the Central Cascades. It is a beautiful Cascade Lake with great tent sites. The hike is 3.1 miles with a 1,200-foot-gain to Thorp Lake. Recreation at the lake includes fishing and hiking Thorp Mountain at 5,854 feet which I plan to do Sunday morning. You are welcome to join.

If it is nasty weather, I will plan to bring a very large tarp just-in-case. In the evening, we will have a fire.

Be prepared for cooler weather. By mid September, it is common to reach temperatures below freezing at night there is a clear sky or cold snap. Be prepared.

After hiking up Thorp Mt Sunday, then packing and hiking out, I don't expect to be back to the trailhead until 3:00 p.m. or so Sunday.

Looking forward to the next time out. :)

By the way, here's the link to the nifty "trail finder" interface (created by Shu!): http://www.gointothewoods.com

That is a nifty trail finder. I'm impressed and will have to spend some studying. Hope to see you on the trail again soon!

You are going to be a happy camper. I hike and backpack all year-round. Many other organizer in Outdoor Adventurers are active year-round too.

According to Steve Pool, the weather is supposed to be nicer Saturday than Sunday. Knowing this, I plan to hike up Thorp Mountain Saturday afternoon after setting up camp. Based on this, we should be home a little earlier on Sunday.
