Hike Green Lake - the far away one

  • Apr 19, 2014 · 8:45 AM

This hike sounds beautiful for this time of year - lush greenery, waterfalls and sunny skies (hear the optimism!) We'll meet at Greenlake park and ride to arrange rides, etc. The directions state it should take us between an hour - 90 mins to get there. The hike is 10 miles long, roundtrip with an elevation gain of 1623. This is not a strenuous hike, I do not go at a fast pace and do like to take pictures. We hike for 3 miles along a road and then hit up Ranger Creek Falls which should be gushing the wonderful melt from the winter and then hopefully, see Green Lake. If there is an area to sit and have a snack, plan to do that there. http://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/green-lake

Please bring cash for your drivers, the ten essentials, warm clothing - layers, camera and a smile. I will check the reports closer to the date to see what the snow conditions are, I doubt we will need snowshoes or even traction devices. I'll update right before though. *National Parks pass required**

Thanks everyone!

Thank you to everyone who showed for the hike yesterday! It started out with the sun shining through the mossy trees, then a little rain and ended with a double rainbow! Can't get much better than that. It was a great hike and good company all around, happy trails!

Is anyone coming from the south end of seattle or king county? I am interested in meeting at the TH, instead of going north, only to turn around and head south again.

Hi, sorry I did not see your message until now. I would be leaving from downtown Bellevue let me know if you want to carpool.

Sorry, I just saw very late Friday night that I got in off the wait list. I figured I would not get off the list and already made other plans.

I'm going to opt out of this one. I'm hiking/climbing to Camp Muir Sunday, and planning to use this Saturday as a prep day. Have fun everyone.

Thanks Rob, you too. Catch you next time!

I heard the parking lot for the trailhead is pretty small so we definitely want to utilize carpooling as best we can! I'll email out my # to everyone tomorrow.

Are you planning to add more spots for this hike? I can drive myself + 3 if that would help

    • Am_anda

No, only groups of 12 are allowed to hike at a time.

Paul - thanks for your help on the questions and offering to co-lead. Bummer about your schedule! I think someone else offered to co-lead so stay tuned everybody, I think we can try and get most of you!

New to hiking in the area. Does anyone know what temperature can be expected on the trail this time of year? Also, I'd be very grateful if someone can post the link where to purchase the National Parks pass...I tried to Google it but want to make sure I get the correct pass. Thanks! Really excited about this hike!!

Hello, welcome! Click on the link I have posted in the description - for WTA. Look on the right side and you'll see another link for the pass. Can't go wrong! And temp is looking wet and chilly so we'll check again closer to the weekend in hopes for sun!!

For the Mt. Rainier-only annual pass ($30) you'll have to get that at a Mount Rainier entrance station (and perhaps at the Carbon River Visitor Center).

Amanda--how is it your trips always draw a waiting list of 100s? :) Do you serve cupcakes or have door prizes?
FYI: may still be snow at Greenlake, but trail up should be pleasant.

      Paul, is it a go?

    • Paul

Ack! I'm behind schedule on a report due by the end of the week and I'm worried it will take up Sat. too. If you think you can recruit someone else to co-lead probably should do so. I probably won't know if I'm available until Friday morning. Sorry!

Can dogs come on this walk? Is there a cost?

    March 26, 2014

    • Am_anda

Hi Victoria, no unfortunately they are not allowed per WTA. And nope, no cost, only cash to your drivers.
