Backcountry Ski: Castle Saddle

Signup Process:

1) Carefully read the event description

2) Honestly assess your backcountry skiing ability

5) Organizer will move Members, who followed the four steps listed above, from the Wait List to the 'Yes' RSVP list

Max Group Size: 8

Tour: Begins and ends at Mt Rainier National Park's Narada Falls parking lot.  Ascend Stevens Canyon Road past Reflection Lakes, turn south and ascend moderately steep slopes to the east saddle of The Castle in The Tatoosh Range.  Descend ascent route.

Who: Backcountry Skiers/Splitboarders who (1) are in excellent cardio condition and (2) have completed at least 2 prior backcountry ski tours involving a minimum of 2,000' of elevation gain.

Touring Gear: AT/Telemark or Splitboard and full-length climbing skins.

Mountaineering Gear: None

Avalanche gear:  Beacon, probe, and shovel.

Avalanche training:  AIARE Level 1 (preferred) or formal Avy awareness course (minimal).

Navigation gear: I am bringing map, compass, altimeter, and GPS.

Distance: ~7 miles round-trip.

Elevation gain: ~2,000 feet.

Pace: Moderate (~800 ft of elevation gain per hour).

Duration: ~3 hour ascent and ~2 hour descent.

Carpooling and fuel reimbursement: Riders please bring cash (10 cents / mile) to compensate your driver.
