Snowshoe the Zig Zag Trail (Intermediate Skill Level)

This coming weekend might bring sunshine according to Steve Pool. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the views from up top of the Zig Zag trail. It's not on the map nor easy to find. From Sno Valley Coffee, we will drive 15 minutes on I-90 to Change Creek trailhead off Exit 38.

The Zig Zag trail is off the Iron House trail and is very steep. We will hit snow right away. The trail continues steep up to Hall Creek road. The best views are off the upper road which will have at least 5 feet of soft snow.

Overall gain is about 2,500 feet. With our early start, we should be back to the cars by 2:30 at the latest.

Bring snow shoes, poles, gators, warm clothes and your camera. We will have great views west looking down I-90 with the Olympic Mountains and Seattle in the background.

This is a strenuous hike due to the steep trail and loose snow. Snow shoes with good traction are recommended. To enjoy this hike, you should be involved in regular exercise.

A gorgeous day and a WONDERFUL time!!! Brent was familiar with the hard-to-find trail and is a thoughtful and considerate leader. I would go on another trip with him anytime.

Roads are free of snow to the trailhead. We will have to hike at least 30 minutes before needing snow shoes.

Cold and sunny is the prediction for the Sunday. There may be some freezing fog in the low lands though, according to Komo.
