We will hike at a moderate pace in Johnston Mill Nature Preserve, part of a large expanse of unfragmented mixed hardwood forest in Orange Country, on the outskirts of Chapel Hill, for a total of a little under 5 miles. This is a no-drop hike during which we will take time to enjoy the surroundings and take a few water breaks. The Triangle Land Conservancy owns the land and this is the link to their site related to Johnston Mill : http://www.triangleland.org/news/Preserve%20guides/Johnston%20Mill%20guide.pdf
We will meet at the Mount Sinai Parking area : GPS[masked],[masked] Directions : Take NC 86 north from I-40 (exit 266) 1.8 miles. Turn right on Mt Sinai Road and follow it for .9 miles. The parking area is on the right, just before the New Hope Creek Bridge. Also, do not forget to bring water. There are no restrooms or water on site.
After the hike, anyone that wants can venture over to Allen & Son for lunch and possibly the Maple View Dairy for ice cream on the porch.
