New River Biking / Stone Mtn. Hiking Trip

The New River Trail is about 2 1/2 - 3 hours north of the triangle. Let's leave in time to get to the starting point by 11:30, bike about an hour, stop for a picnic lunch and ride another hour or so.   We'll spend the night in Hillsville and head to Stone Mountain Park in the morning for 5-mile hike.  If you're not a hiker, you can stay and ride another section of the bike trail.

In addition. last year we topped off the trip with a visit to the Raffaldini Winery on the way home.

We will actually meet at the Shot Tower State Park right off I-77 in Lead Mines, VA.  If you use Google Maps and enter 'Shot Tower, Lead Mines, VA', it will get you there.  Couldn't make Yahoo Maps or MapQuest work.  Don't know about GPS.

From there, we will caravan the short distance to the trailhead for the bike trail.

Once we know who wants to go, we can possibly arrange carpooling and room sharing.

Feel free to email me if you have questions.

I just booked a room at the Hampton Inn, too. If anyone else signs up and wants to share, let me know. Are we meeting at the Shot Tower at 11:30, or earlier so that we can be at the starting point by 11:30?

Okay - I just booked a room for two nights - I'm going up early on Monday to do some extra riding. If you call the Hampton Inn, it's cheaper than the online price. I have two queen beds - anyone who wants is welcome to share with me on Tuesday night.
Leaving early tomorrow for Roanoke - I'll be in touch about where and what time to meet you guys on Tuesday.

I'm going to wait until later today to decide if I want to go a day early on Monday and ride some by myself. If I do, I'll have a room so anyone is welcome to bunk with me. I'm going to reserve at the Hampton this time. It's just across the streetish.

All right we have 5 that would be two rooms shared or 3 with one big spender in the group :)

Do we want to go to the same place, or maybe look at something in Pulaski for a different set of options?

    June 19, 2013

Okay folks - let's all calm down. Staying in/near Pulaski was an just a suggestion so there would be something interesting to do on Tuesday after riding. We can stay at our usual place down near Hillsville if everyone is agreeable. We might be getting a 5th rider as well - Debbie said she might sign up.

One other thing - if you look on-line, the Hampton Inn gets much higher ratings than the Comfort Inn - want to try that one?

I have not reserved my room yet. Maggie, would you like to bunk with me?
