Yates Mill Pond hike and Lake Wheeler Kayak/Canoe Rental

We'll meet at 9:30 at Yates Mill Park, take a hike of about 45 min., then head on to Lake Wheeler, just down the road at 6404 Lake Wheeler Road.  There we can rent canoes or kayaks (singles or doubles both rent for $5 per hour.)  You must leave a picture ID at the rental desk and pay for the first hour.  If you stay out longer you just pay the extra when you return.  It is a very peaceful lake with lots of water birds (egrets and herons as well as ducks and geese.)  Wear sunscreen, bring water.  Water shoes and quick dry pants are advised---you will get wet if you kayak, not so much for a canoe.  Lake Wheeler has a lovely place to sit and eat lunch overlooking the lake if you so desire.

The Yates Mill Park hike was an inspired choice. Thank you, Marcia, for including this interesting and lovely site on your outing. What a treasure. (I can't believe I've never been there before!) And thanks for contributing to my kayaking experience. You can't beat the price and location.

The hike and kayaking was great. The weather was perfect and we had some good conversation. I felt very comfortable with this group

The meetup outing today at Yates Mill and Lake Wheeler was GREAT. I learned so much about the group and your activities and most of all meet some very nice women. Hopefully I will meet more of this group at a later event. Thanks Marcia for organizing this and I hope you found your drivers license. Roberta

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
