The trail is flat, hard packed gravel. It is recommended that you have a bike with heavier duty tires, and not road / racing tires. A mountain bike or Hybrid will work best.
We will be riding at a moderate pace. We won't be racing, but we won't be going at a snails pace either. We will stop along the trail to regroup, and take in the views.
This is a very scenic ride, and you can't get lost, even if you can't keep up. It's straight out, and straight back. We will also be passing a Clydesdale horse farm!
It is important that you have all the necessary tools, safety gear (helmet), spare tubes, patch kit, pump, in case you should get a flat along the way. Also make sure you have the proper clothing depending on the weather, as well as snacks & enough water. There is a bike shop around the corner, (Cycle Craft) if you should need any last minute bike supplies. You can also rent bikes there. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR BIKE IS 100% READY BEFORE THE RIDE!!! You should be able to maintain your own bike, fix a flat if necessary, as there is no guarantee that someone will be able to help you during the ride if people get split up.
We will have a 15 minute grace period, before taking off (We will hit the trail @ 11:00)
After the ride, we will be having lunch at the popular Long Valley Brew Pub:http://www.restaurantvillageatlongvalley.com/rest_home.php?restid=1 This is a very nice place, casual, great food and drinks. It's right down the road from the trail head, and is a popular stop for people after biking in the area.
The parking lot at the trail head, is very small, and will fill up quickly. There is a bank across the street, which is open on Saturdays, but they allow parking in the back of their parking lot ONLY (do not park elsewhere in their lot!). There is also a market next to the bank. The last time I was there on a Sat, it was closed, and people were using their parking lot too... Just make sure it's closed if you do. There is also a ball field, with a parking lot, just down the road, on the left, behind the church, before the trail head. Also, be careful with the directions... Follow the exit numbers. There are 2 signs for Schooleys Mountain road on the highway and one of them will take you no where near where you need to go.
NOTE: This ride is weather dependent!
No Kids on this ride.
Please... There is NO need to RSVP NO!
