Ridgeline Trail: Two hours to hike this 4.5-mile trail. It is blazed in yellow and begins at the forest edge off of the front parking lot behind Cabin #1. The trail wanders through expansive oak-hickory forests, shady hemlock ravines and around numerous vernal wetlands. The terrain is hilly, and in one section where the trail courses over a rock ledge, additional care should be taken. This trail begins and ends along with the red blazed Scenic Gorge trail behind Cabin #20. Follow PEEC’s campus road back to the main building. This hike wll take about 2 hours.

Bring 2 liters of water and a snack.

After the Ridgeline hike we drive to Dingmans Falls it is the second highest falls in the state, with a plunge of 130 feet. Dingmans Falls is 45 min to hike  1.2 miles boardwalk trail. In heavy spring runoff, there is no way to get to the end of the boardwalk without getting drenched by spray. The boardwalk trail passes by a thin horsetail cascade called Silverthread Fallser . Directions to PEEC From New York City: (Route 15 Northbound) From Interstate 80 W, take New Jersey Exit #34B for Route 15 N, Sparta. Route 15 will converge with Route 206 N From Route 206 North turn left onto Route 560 and follow signs for Dingmans Ferry Bridge. After crossing bridge turn left at 1st traffic light onto 209 South. Turn right on Brisco Mt. Road When the road forks bear right at stop sign and PEEC will be on your right.

Thanks, Bob for leading us through the picturesque woodlands of PEEC. The stream, gorge and waterfall were very serene. Loved the added adventure of the downhill rope pull! And thanks for the add-on excursion to Dingman's Falls. They were superb! A day well spent!

I am wondering if I can do part of the hike? A schedule conflict prevents me from being able to stay long.

Bob is the leader, but I was just wondering if you are a novice hiker, how are you going to find your way back through the woods alone?

Thanks for asking. I thought there were two different places that we're being hiked, so I thought I could so the first part. I really was hoping to go, but just realized I need to be in Westchester by 1pm, so not enough time in the day. Have a great time. I'll try another time to make it.

I am interested in going, but have not signed up yet. In reading the description, am I correct that we are going to get soaked on the Dingman's Falls part of the hike? There is no way around it? I am brand new to the group. I live near the George Washington Bridge. Is anyone planning to car pool to the hike site?

    Thanks.

This does not sound like a beginner's hike

    May 13, 2014

    • Lynn

Bridgette, It is definitely a beginner hike. I also did it in the snow like Bob did and it was not strenuous at all. This is definitely the kind of hike to begin with if you are new to hiking.
