Greetings to all of you. It looks like there's going to be some good kayaking in the coming weeks. Our last adventure was to much of an adventure, in Point Reyes last month, but the people were awesome and made some good friends. So this time around I picking the Monterey Bay, for its views, places to walk around, food choices and of course kayaking!!! Kayaking in Monterey Bay. I have done this one many times and is always fun. Lets try and be at Monterey Bay Kayaks (693 Del Monte Ave, Monterey (*[masked]*) by 10:30 am. This will give us lots of time to make our way through the Harbor/wharf and have our turn back point at the Monterey Bay aquarium. There's always a lot to see: harbor seals, sea otters, kelp forest- and all the things that live on the kelp, scuba divers... I usually like to take a break and land the kayaks near Cannery Row- food is with in walking distance from then beach. paddling time is around 3-4 hours, and total paddling distance is a little over 4 miles. Yes we will be near the open ocean but the kelp really helps to minimize the waves (most likely you'll get more wet from paddling)...:) After kayaking people can change and hang out in Monterey or go down to Carmel to get some food, see the galleries or just get some candy and watch the sunset....
Kayak equipment rental is $30 (which includes: kayak, paddle, dry bags, wet suit & spray jacket) for the entire day per person, food varies from clam chowder, pizza, chocolate at least another $15. There are places to change and bathrooms at Monterey Bay Kayaks Update: 04/20/09
what to bring:
Swimsuit to wear under wet suit
cap, visor
wind breaker- for after kayaking
water bottle
snacks- cliff bars, granola, candy in a zip lock bag-
sun screen
towel- for after kayaking
extra change of clothes
tevas, aqua socks or any type of shoe you don't mind getting wet
camera- preferably one that floats!!!
If you have your own kayak, I can put it on my car with mine... Oh, had some questions regarding is this meeting for beginners. Yes it is & also for experienced, Monterey is great place to see sea otters, dolphins, seals, and all the life that lives in and around the kelp forests. We will have an easy pace, so no one will get left behind- no races here more like a gentle paddle. In the afternoon the winds will pick up and will actually push us back to the harbor...If you have any question drop me an email... Thanks, Steven Update:4/24/09 Just got in from Tahoe and they are getting at least another 6" of snow as I was leaving, very nice!!! I just called Monterey Bay Kayaks for a forecast, and they expect it to be good conditions for kayaking tomorrow. So if everyone can drop me an email for a final head count that would be great. Also to be on the safe side you can call and reserve (they take credit cards over the phone-and are there till 6:00pm today) the kayaks to make sure we have them for the time we show up... We will all be wearing wetsuits with spray jackets so, we will be warm and insulated from the wind. We should all be renting sin-on-top kayaks which are easy to get in and out of. You will have the option to do singles or tandems (call to reserve so they have them ready for you...) so get ready for a great time on the water...If you have any questions please drop me an email....If you would like to meet at my house around 9:00 am so we can arrange carpools that would be great, or we can meet you at Monterey Bay Kayaks at 10:30am.... See you out there, Steven

Thank you Steven!!! You did a great job. I think I speak for all that we had a great time. So I probably won't do the bikes (because I don't have a good one). But anything else I'm game.
