Meet people interested in extended backpacking trips (5-10 days), significant undertakings (ex. 100 miles on the Appalchian Trail in 3 days), seriously learning new skills (map-reading, orienteering, and land navigation), learning and fine-tuning advanced outdoor skills (climbing peaks, backcountry travel, canyoneering).
This meet-up is geared toward people with at least some experience and basic camping equipment. Even if you don't have experience or equipment, we won't prejudice against you as long as you have a desire to learn and willingness to acquire the basic gear. The trips/activites will include backpacking, camping, rock climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering, or just day trips. I forsee the various trips and activities of the year, culminating in a capstone trip that will put all our skills to the test (ie. climbing mountain Shasta in California, Canyoneering in Southern Utah, Trekking through the Wind River Range in Wyoming).
If you have suggestions, please offer them up. If you have skills to share, please share.
This is a five week trip that you can join either for the entire trip or for one of its two parts. It's a bit early to buy tickets but the tentative departure date to Kathmandu is August 27, leaving back to the US on October 1. Expenses to prepare for are air fare, local transportation, lodging, food, and the services of a local guide and porters. Read more
