Chataqua Ranger Cottage
This has become an annual tradition for me. The hike is short and steep, 3 miles round trip and 1400 feet of elevation. It is an up and back hike and definately not a novice hike. You need to be able to walk uphill for a mile straight. It's a huffer and puffer for sure.
I did not get a permit for a large group so we are limited to 24 total. I'm not sure what the current dog status of this trail is. Things changed recently for many trails. To avoid problems I am asking that no dogs come on the hike.
Expect to take 2 - 3 hours. Be prepared for cold, wind, snow, ice and all the fun things winter offers. Traction devices are very strongly recommended. The steep downhills on the return are deep in the shade and likely to be icy.
