Swing dance lesson before the big dance

So Art has graciously offered to teach a swing dancing lesson before the next big dance at the Avalon. He and his partner have been doing this sort of thing fairly seriously (or so it seems to me) for over 20 years. AND he's doing it for free. If it's successful and we want to continue doing it, we will probably have to pay for use of the hall, but they'll letting us try it once (as a favor to Art).

So please try to show up on time so we can all be on the same page as Art starts from the beginning. In 2 hours, with a smaller group, I'm guessing we'll make some serious progress, but we will have to wait and see.

Afterwards there'll be someplace to go eat dinner (Glenn has indicated he'll probably host BBQ at KT's nearby), though perhaps some folks will stick around and practice.

I'll email my # a couple of days before the 15th, just in case anyone needs it.

I agree with the other comments - really good lesson. The extra time allowed us to cover more material and also get more reps in. Now we all just have to keep practicing, dancing, etc. May the fun continue...

Excellent "step-by-step" instruction. I think I'll retain what we did today. And good dance partner too.

Don: I'm still not sure which dance you're talking about as 11/6 is last month. There are several dances coming up - salsa and waltz, but Art is only offering swing lessons (unless he comes on and says different). Perhaps you can find someone to offer lessons in something else. Don't forget that a lot of these dances at the Avalon include a beginner lesson first. That's all I've got to say (for now). Wish I could be more help...

I'm guessing you are referring to the 12/6 Salsa at the Avalon. The salsa starts with a lesson as well. The time I went there they took the beginners over into their own group and gave them rudimentary instruction, which I promptly forgot. Hopefully your retention will be better.

Aha. Salsa dancing. I didn't notice it at first because it's a sequence of events starting...well starting tonight. There is a lesson beforehand (at least there was a year ago when I went) and it was actually broken into 3 levels. Will this be good enough to please Don? Only he can say. And of course organizing a lesson earlier in the day for the grey wolves would be tricky, to say the least. Still, I wouldn't put it past someone to try. Not me though. I'm sticking with Swing for now - my brain is addled enough with all the choices in there already. Don't need any "foreign" options floating around (I picture learning to dance much like learning a foreign language - there's a place in my brain for my original language, and then a place for "foreign languages" with no firm boundaries, an amorphous, amoeba-like playpen where my brain grabs desperately at anything resembling what I had in mind from the pool of choices).

Don - the ball is, still, in your court.
