Paddlers Care Paddle Challenge

This event is a combination paddling/charity fundraiser. It is a unique and interesting concept. Paddlers raise funds for a charitable organization of their choice, then paddle all or part of the Kissimmee Waterway from Lake Kissimmee State Park to River Ranch Resort. There is also camping overnight, food, music, and socializing. See this site for more information

Paddlers Care challenge was a blast!! The paddling was gorgeous in clean and beautiful Lake Kissimme with many birds and fish to ogle. It was windy which created some fun waves for seakayakers. I enjoyed the companionship of friends new and old. Bill fed us 3 delicious meals and I am very much looking forward to next year's event.

Windy conditions, but great attitudes. Airboats and bass boats, for the most part, gave us space. This was an organized fundraising event to which 3 Meet Up paddlers joined. Only the experienced Meet Up paddlers paddled the full 18+ mile distance. Most of the organized cause paddlers were less experienced and chose shorter routes. Paddle craft included K-1 and K-2, C-2, and two Voyageur Canoes with 10 person crews. A few paddlers did not finish, but were picked up by the chase boats. A debriefing meeting will be held in May to evaluate and determine changes for next year's Paddlers Care Paddle Challenge. We will probably add a Meet Up division next year.
