Is flying in a helicopter on your bucket-list? Come take in views of the beautiful Kapiti Coast from the air and land. This event combines a helicopter flight with Helipro and a guided walk with Greater Wellington Regional Council through one of Wellington's stunning regional parks.
What we are doing:
A lucky 8 AW members will join GWRC as part of their summer events program on a guided Heli-tramp up Mt Wainui. We meet up with the Park Ranger and some other members of the public to fly with Helipro from Queen Elizabeth Park to the landing point on the Battle Hill side of Mt Wainui. From here we will be guided into the Native bush of Mt Wainui, part of the Akatarawa Forest stretching from Upper Hutt to Paraparumu. Our guide takes us to Mt Wainui trig at 722m where we have lunch while taking in fantastic views over the Kapiti Coast. We descend down the mountain and via Whareroa Farm back to our starting point.
More information regarding Helipro can be found here http://www.helipro.co.nz/
and about GWRC from here http://www.gw.govt.nz/

Where: Meet outside the Ranger's office in Queen Elizabeth Park. Take the MacKays crossing entrance into the park and the Ranger's office is located on Whareroa road.
What to bring: Make sure you are equipped with warm clothes, wind/water proof jacket, water, snacks and something for lunch, and good sturdy walking shoes - the condition of the ground could be boggy depending on weather before the day.
How to get there: Queen Elizabeth Park is located on SH1 between Paekakariki and Raumati on the Kapiti Coast.
Public transport: There are train stations located at Paekakariki (1.5km away from the southern entrance to the park) and at Paraparaumu. From the latter Bus no. 250 can take you to Raumati South. I really would recommend trying to rideshare with someone by posting a comment below.
