All those closet sea hunters, this is the event for you. Dare to go native, take a spear and hunt your own food. Don't worry it will not quite be jumping from the rocks as the picture suggests :-). The waters around Wellington are rich of life and goodness.
What to expect:
We will meet at the parking area in at the end of Owhiro Parade at 3.00pm. We will then have 2 hours of spearfishing, freediving and possibly a fish or 2 to take home. We will aim to get some paua regardless. You will be given tips on species identification, do's, dont's, etc. This is not a course but an excursion. There will be opportunities to dive to 12m.
Remember if you need to hire gear Dive Wellington will provide special rates for members, just call in or phone Dave, Paula or Bart on 939 3483. Alternatively Claire will always give you a great deal at Dive & Ski HQ Petone, 568 5028. You may be able to arrange for a city pickup and dropoff of the hire gear rather than from Petone. Please organise gear hire at least one day before the event.
IMPORTANT: It is essential that you can snorkel without fear of the ocean. Must be able to swim. No other experience required.
$15 cash on the day to cover logisitcs, and use of spearguns, plus any extra equipment hire (where applicable)
