Climb and boulder at Hangdog

  • HangDog Climbing Adventures

Come and try out HangDog in Lower Hutt for a climbing session!

Their 14m high walls are awesome, covered in over 70 climbs (with some routes higher than grade 28).

Attracting many of the country's top climbers, their main bouldering room is New Zealand's best and is equipped with a huge bouldering mat.

The bright orange, 700mm deep air-mat enables people of all ages to safely push their skills to the limit, while climbing up one side, across the roof and down the other side of the dome-shaped room.

Difficulty: If you have not climbed at hangdog before, there will be a short introductory course on belaying.

Price: $17

Time: Two hours

What to bring: Clothes to climb in

How to get there:

Arrange group transport using the comments below. Please help the vehicle owner with petrol costs.

Driving

Take the Dowse Interchange (Lower Hutt) exit from the motor way. Follow the exit curve to the round-about. Turn right and head north for 300 meters. Look high and to the left for a big black building. Park in the energy centre complex.

Trains & Busses

You can catch the Melling link train 6:05 pm from Wellington to Western Hutt Train Station, then walk to Hangdog. It is about 0.3km and takes less than 5min. At the end of the session you can take a 83 bus back to Wellington from Alicetown, about a 10 min walk.

A 'no show' rule applies to all AW events.  If you cancel your RSVP after 7pm on the evening before the event, or do not turn up for the event, you will receive a non-show for the event. With three no-show recorded, you will be suspended from Adventure Wellington for 6 months.

Morning, Would this be suitable for absolute novice climbers??

    July 3, 2013

    • Hamish L.

Yes it would, its a good way to learn and there is usually a mixture of novices to experienced climbers.

Anyone wants to buy climbing shoes? I have one pair to sell

    July 1, 2013

    • Hamish L.

What size and condition are they? I may know someone.

      July 1, 2013

    • Iris Z

La sportiva Katana, UK 3.5, USA men 4.5, USA women 5.5, euro 36.5. Worn three times, they still got virtually new edges on them. They are too big for me, will suit someone who wears size 38 or 38.5 street shoes. Bivouac sells them $284.90, I ask for $140. I put a post on Hangdog board, please check it out. Cheers, Hamish.

ounds great to me, although it seems like a lot of people in this group are very green so we should keep it small. How about you, do you have experience lead climbing?

      July 1, 2013

    • Hamish L.

I've done a bit of sport in the past, no trad. Been keen to get back into it. A small group to start would be best.
