Wellington Zoo Sleepover!

Join us for another once-in-a-lifetime experience: a behind-the-scenes overnight sleepover at the Wellington Zoo! Adventure Wellington has booked out the entire zoo for the night of July 6th!

The Wellington Zoo is a magical place after dark and taking part in a sleepover means that we will get to see and experience all sorts of things that the regular visitors don’t.

During our sleepover AWers will get out and about in the Zoo after visitor hours end and discover what happens behind the scenes at the Zoo (accompanied by zoo rangers- we stay in groups to avoid becoming munchies for the animals!) AWers will also get to feed some of the amazing animals, and work on a special enrichment activity to help keep the creatures stimulated and happy.

After all that excitement, we get our own special sleeping quarters. Depending on numbers, we may have two of them: the Archibald Room which overlooks Monkey Island, and the Living Room which is in close quarters to some very cute critters. We will also aim to play some games (the old AW favourite Jenga might make a comeback!) as well as show a movie in the Archibald Room.

The next morning, after being woken by the gibbons and lions, you get to see what happens at the Zoo before the visitors arrive with your adventure ending as they open the doors for visitors at 9.30am

Limit: Maximum 65* (*extended). Our booking is for adults only.

Price: $38 per person (includes $2.75 bank fees)
This includes a light supper and continental breakfast (Please eat dinner before you arrive)

How to reserve your place: RSVPs are now closed

REFUND POLICY:
If the event is cancelled or postponed, then you are entitled to a refund. We cannot transfer your payment to future events. We only refund the event fee, not the mentioned banking fee for obvious reasons. To obtain a refund please email the event host immediately after the event is cancelled or postponed. If we haven't received a refund request within 14 days after the event, then the money will be unavailable for refund and will instead be deposited in the AW Spare Funds account, for use which benefit the AW membership. Refunds will be processed within 14 days.

Important info: RSVPs will close for this event at midday on the 1st July and payments are due before this date. If you have RSVPed to the waiting list and have not paid by 12PM on the 1st July- you will be removed from the event. We need to be strict on this as numbers and payment need to be confirmed in advance

There is also a minimum number of attendees required for this event. If we do not have at least 20 people RSVPed by the 1st July, this event will unfortunately either have to be postponed or cancelled

Time period: The sleepover starts at 7pm and ends at 9.30 am Sunday morning

What to bring:

  • sleeping bag
  • pillow
  • sleeping mat (there is one provided but you may want extra comfort as we will be on the floor)
  • warm clothes/PJs
  • camera
  • earplugs (optional)
  • munchies
  • bottle of water
  • Jenga/other board games

Where we're meeting: Outside the Wellington Zoo's entrance building at 7pm

DISCLAIMER

NO SHOW POLICY
If you no show or cancel after 7pm the night before this event you will have a 'no show' recorded against your name. No shows can lead to you having to leave the group. Please read our Group Rules.

Hi everyone, I am looking for someone who wants to pay cheap accommodation in a great great house for 5 weeks (to replace me while I am running away from immigration!lol)
I will be gone from the 20th of July until the 30th of August.
My house got free unlimited internet, free parking, all furnished, warm (my bed got an electric blanket :) ) and we have a big screen with a dvd player. If you know someone trustworthy that would be interested, please let me know on 0211787580. Thank you

Thanks Dawn for hosting the refuge at the House of Quiet and bringing us a good movie to quietly geek out on. Had a great time despite getting bashed in the head on the tour by reckless members of the Rowdy Group. WTF? Best part was staying afterwards to see all the critters get up to their daily routines. How did baboons not make the tour?? (see photos) Cheers -Wynn

It's not every day you get to make enrichment items for animals, or wake up and pet 2 lizards. Separating the sleep areas into rowdiness levels was also well thought out. I would recommend this activity.

Hi peeps, if anyone wants to do the Tree-athlon thingy on Sunday: I'll be driving and have 4 seats left. You'll have to make your own arrangements for coming back into town though, because I'll be driving back to Petone station.

If there are 65 places available, why is the list only letting 42 people RSVP?

    June 30, 2013

    • Kheshini

You have to pay at the link first and then you get moved from the waitlist to the attending list.

Hi, I'm confused because the profile says 65 can attend but there aren't any spots left after 30 committed. Can someone explain what's this is about, thanks.

OK thanks Mick, I thought that 'no spots left, literally meant 'no spots left'. Silly me....apparently

      June 27, 2013

    • Mick

No problem, it can be a little confusing when it does say that- it's just the process AW uses for handling paid events and helps stop people holding onto spots when they haven't yet paid :)

      1 · June 27, 2013

  • Joel R.

ahh silly question...but considering ive not been in YEARS is parking free over night? Also this is awsome, i never knew you could stay the night there!

    June 24, 2013

Hi Joel parking is free. I am going to be parking outside.
