Adventure Wellington is going to the snow for the fifth trip of the season. Want to learn how to ski/snowboard? Or already a pro in the snow? Join AW on a great snow weekend
This trip is for all abilities, you have the choice between doing your own thing or choosing from different lesson packages
We will ski Whakapapa on the Saturday (weather dependent) and then potentially go to Turoa on the Sunday as it is closer to Wellington
We leave on Friday at 4.30pm from Wellington Railway Station, then drive up to National Park, stopping along the way for something to eat.
We spend the night in Naitonal Park.
On Saturday, after breakfast, we start our adventure up on the mountain in the Whakapapa Ski Area which has extensive beginner areas but also some great stuff for the more advanced
We'll all have lunch at the cafe near the top of Mt Ruapehu!
On Sunday morning we'll spend the day having more fun on the mountain and head back to Wellington around 4pm when the lifts close, arriving back in Wellington around 8pm.
Costs: $180 per person. This covers transportation to/from National Park, accommodation and food:
- Transport between Wellington, National Park and the ski field ($65 incl. petrol)
- 2 nights accommodation ($80)
- Food and drinks ($25; breakfast and dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday)
- Banking fees ($10, non-refundable)
Costs on the mountain are variable depending on what lessons you take and what equipment and lift passes you need. Possible costs are as follows:
- Discover Package (incl. beginner lessons, equipment and lift passes): $110
- Lift pass (1 day): $97 or Weekend Pass $184. (Other options available)
- Equipment Hire (per day depending on package): $40

- the webshop keeps track of available spots, so as soon as you've paid, your spot is confirmed.
The maximum number of participants for this event is 10. The first 10 to pay through the WebShop will be moved to the attending list. Once the attendance list has reached 10 people I will send out an email and comment on this event. If someone on the attending list decides to drop out I will email everyone on the waiting list to give a chance to get in.
We plan to stay either at Howards Lodge in National Park Village which is a great lodge with good kitchen and lounge or rent a bach
Where we meet: Wellington Railway Station, entrance Waterloo Quay (car park next to platform 9, look for minivans with excited people). Please ensure you are on-time so we can get away quickly
Difficulty: 2/10, basic level of fitness required (for more info, see FAQ)
What to Bring: Warm layers, helmet, hat, gloves, snow jacket, snow trousers, sunscreen, sunglasses / goggles, sturdy shoes with good grip. **avoid cotton and nylon clothing**. Full list will be emailed prior to the trip.
Please note: Conditions on the mountain can be extreme and there is no guarantee the ski fields will be open. This trip will go ahead as we cannot cancel accommodation and minivans on short notice. Don't worry though, being Adventure Wellington, we will plenty of activities to keep us entertained.
If the event is cancelled or postponed, or you change your RSVP to "no" before the date that payments are no longer refundable, then you are entitled to a refund. We cannot transfer your payment to future events. We only refund the event fee, not the mentioned banking fee for obvious reasons. To obtain a refund please email the event host immediately after changing your RSVP. If we haven't received a refund request within 14 days after the event, then the money will be unavailable for refund and will instead be deposited in the AW Spare Funds account, for use which benefit the AW membership. Refunds will be processed within 14 days.
Whilst every possible assistance will be offered, Adventure Wellington Trust, the Trustees, Event Organisers/hosts and members cannot be held responsible for any accident, injuries or losses sustained leading up to, during, or after an event.
NO SHOW POLICY
If you no show or cancel after 7pm the night before this event you will have a 'no show' recorded against your name. No shows can lead to you having to leave the group. Please read our Group Rules.
