Touching Rock - Bouldering at Baring Head

***This is a trial event for the keen climbers among you***

What we'll be doing
In an effort to inspire those dedicated climbers amongst the AW ranks we'll be heading out to the natural playground of Baring Head which has a multitude of world class boulder problems over looking the Cook Strait. We'll spending a few hours getting to grips with climbing outdoors on small boulders, learning safety, a bit of technique and most of all, having fun.

Difficulty
3/10
– 45min-1hr walk from the carpark to Baring Head.  No outdoor climbing experience necessary but some indoor experience is useful.

Price: Free

Time
Meet in the carpark at 10am. 4-5hrs (NB - this includes the 45min-1hr walk to and from the boulders so 2-3hrs of climbing in all)

Important info
This event is weather dependant and may be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. A decision will be made at least 12hrs before the start of the event so keep an eye out here for updates.

What to bring
Warm comfortable clothing to walk and climb in, water, a snack/lunch, *your own climbing shoes*

(If you don't already have your own climbing shoes beg, borrow, steal or buy - http://www.bivouac.co.nz/gear/climbing/rock-climbing-shoes.html or trademe!)

How to get there
Arrange group transport using the comments below. Please help the vehicle owner with petrol costs.

Drive to Wainuiomata and take the Coast Road heading south.  After approximately 16km (1.5km before you reach the sea) there is a car park on the right with a bridge across the river.  (Driving time from Wellington City approximately 1hr)

Hi all, just wanted to check that everyone had managed to sort out rock climbing shoes before next weekend?? They are around 60NZD from Bivouac. Also one of the climbing instructors at Fergs Girish, has volunteered to come and offer some help! Fingers crossed for good weather...

So long term forecast shows southerlies and showers on Saturday and dry with southerlies on Sunday. Lets hope the weather front moves quicker than expected. We all need to start doing a sun dance!
I will make a final decision around lunchtime on Friday. Worst case scenario we reschedule.

If anyone needs a lift from Wellington City I shall be driving through from Island Bay.
