Creek crossings, bush-clad valleys and sweeping views over the harbour are guaranteed on this walk through beautiful Belmont Regional Park!

We’ll follow several tracks that meander past stream valleys and over ridge lines to tussock grass plains with breathtaking views. These views and the forest-clad valleys make this one of the most popular regional parks in the Greater Wellington area.

To make it extra adventurous this walk involves a number of stream crossings, a perfect opportunity to test your parkour skills or just accept wet feet.

Difficulty: 7/10 strenuous walk with steep, slippery and wet sections

Length: 4-5 hrs walking

Time: 10:30 am

What to bring: lunch, water, sturdy shoes and warm clothing (It can get very cold and windy at the trig, especially in a southerly), spare socks. Because we cross multiple streams there is a chance you end up with wet and muddy feet.

How to get there: We start and finish at the car park of Maungaraki/Oakleigh St. To get there follow the SH2 from Wellington north till you reach the exit Maungaraki/Lower Hutt. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Dowse Drive (uphill). Turn left onto Oakleigh St. on top of the hill. Turn right to the car park (clearly signposted with big blue sign "Belmont Regional Park").

Hi Everyone. I notice a few newish people to the club have signed up. Please be aware that this is quite a strenuous walk with many steep uphill sections and you will not be allowed to split from the group to turn back. If this is your first time please pack a light pack with water, warm windproof clothes and lunch.

Hi everyone. I've signed up for this walk, but I guess I can only get there if I can get a lift. Is anyone travelling from the city? I live in Mt Vic but of course happy to get myself to somewhere convenient. Thanks!
