by the Lagoon, near Frank Kitts Park, Wellington
THIS IS AN EVENT FOR THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN SELECTED FOR THE DRAGON BOAT TEAM.
This is it... Team Adventure Wellington hits the water for our main training sessions in the boat!!
We will be working on different elements of paddling and team work at each session. There will be rescue boats out for each session.
These sessions are Wednesday nights 8 January to 5 March - plus Monday nights 24 Feb and 3 March.
Meet at the Lagoon.
Arriving on time
We have a very tight 6-7pm slot for the boats, so please arrive by 5.45pm changed and ready for warming up, team briefing and ready to lift the boat into the water by 6pm. We'll have a short team de-brief after each session... and then for those who want to, head for a refreshment afterwards.
What to bring
Clothes similar to what you would wear kayaking - poly props, merino, togs, shorts. If you have a team tshirt please wear that (I'll organise tshirts for newbies in the new year).
Long trousers are not allowed on the boats because you will be kneeling down and they can get caught on the frame, which is a drowning hazard if we capsize and you can't get free!!
No cotton, or material that will absorb water.
One knee pad is recommended... as you'll be kneeling on one knee.
Dry change of clothes / towel etc.
We will be borrowing paddles, courtesy of the Dragon Boat Festival organisers.
Life jackets are not recommended as they are restrictive when paddling. This is why we need to be able to swim 50m unaided!!
This is going to be a good work out!!!
Whilst every possible assistance will be offered, Adventure Wellington Trust, the Trustees, Event Organisers/hosts and members cannot be held responsible for any accident, injuries or losses sustained leading up to, during, or after an event.
You have paid a $50 refundable deposit to cover any damage to the boat or equipment we borrow.
