New members  -- this one is for you! If you've joined in the past few months, you can RSVP to this easy-paced evening stroll up Mount Vic and meet some other new faces to Adventure Wellington.

The Plan: We start in front of the Embassy Theatre on Kent Terrace, and walk along Oriental Bay, then up the last part of the Southern Walkway, with great views of the city.

Finally after we make it to the Mount Victoria Lookout we'll have some terrific 360 degree views.

Although the tracks are steep, we would do it on an easy pace with lots of stops to admire the views. The walk will take about two to two and a half hours.

After the walk, those who are interested can come for a customary AW after-event drink, and free platters of food, thanks to one of our great sponsors, The Southern Cross bar!

Difficulty: 2.5/5

Distance: 7 km

Time: 2.5 hours (including 15 minutes at the summit)

What to bring: sturdy shoes, a camera, a good sense of humor, fun attitude, and maybe a walking stick for traversing the steep hills

How to get there: Frequently served by buses (catch a bus going to Courtenay Place) and we will end close to where we started (at the waterfront at Oriental Parade).

Absolutely great for a beginner. Opportunity to make new friends and learn about different things. Thanks to Southern cross for the much needed snacks after the walk. Would love to do it every time this is organized.

Thank you Eugene and Heather for organising this for us and making a big effort to help us feel welcome. A lovely way to end the week and meet other people who are also new to the group, and it's nice seeing Wellington from a different viewpoint - both with the gorgeous panorama and the conversation. And the food was delicious and very welcome - a lovely end to a pretty afternoon.

Oh, and please try to be at the Embassy by 2.30pm, and bring a good wind proof jacket, or something warm for when we reach the Mt Vic - will probably be quite blustery up there!

  • Eugene Coneglan

Ok, as you can probably tell, with the sun out, the walk is a goer. Let's meet inside the foyer area of the Embassy, I'll be there from 2.15pm, if you are running late, or have any questions, contact me on [masked], look forward to meeting you all later, enjoy the rest of your morning.

I'm still up for it and looking forward to it, even if it is blustery. Isn't wind what Wellington's famous for - may as well enjot it :)

Hi there everybody, there's a weather warning in place for Wellington tomorrow afternoon, with strong gales forecast. It is my intention to still do the walk, but I will make a call on this at around midday tomorrow. Hope you will all still be keen, I am, and if its a bit blustery, it will be an adventure. More details to follow tomorrow morning.
