Newbies walk - up to Mount Vic lookout

New members -- this one is for you! If you've joined in the past few months, you can RSVP to this easy-paced evening stroll up Mount Vic and meet some other new faces to Adventure Wellington. Preference will be given to those that have not been on this walk before.

The Plan: We start in front of the Embassy Theatre on Kent Terrace, and walk along Oriental Bay, then up the last part of the Southern Walkway, with great views of the city.

Finally after we make it to the Mount Victoria Lookout we'll have some terrific 360 degree views.

Although the tracks are steep, we would do it on an easy pace with lots of stops to admire the views. The walk will take about two to two and a half hours.

After the walk, those who are interested can come for a customary AW after-event drink, and free platters of food, thanks to one of our great sponsors, The Southern Cross bar!

Difficulty: 2.5/5

Distance: 7 km

Time: 2.5 hours (including 15 minutes at the summit)

What to bring: sturdy shoes, a camera, a good sense of humor, fun attitude, and maybe a walking stick for traversing the steep hills

How to get there: Frequently served by buses (catch a bus going to Courtenay Place) and we will end close to where we started (at the waterfront at Oriental Parade).

A great way to introduce yourself to AW and meet some new people. Very friendly hosts and it was great to chat over a drink and food at the Southern Cross. Totally recommend all newbies do this.

Awesome time with the 1st July group of newbies. Nice small crowd meant being able to get around to everybody and have lots of fun :) Eirene set a mean pace up to the top and back, resulting in Laura having to take stock at the top on the rock in the middle, lol, but she did a superb job in entertaining the troops. Great views from the top, great additions to AW, nice shandy and platters at the Southern Cross - in other words, superb afternoon out :)

An excellent choice for my 1st Adventure Wellington meet-up. Had good chats with the others in the group along the route, for some it was their 1st AW event too. We finished off at the Southern Cross for a post-walk drink and some nibbles and a lot more chat. Thanks to Eugene & Eirene

I have heard Eugene was looking to give up his title AW greater and was now wanting the title of AW farewell-er - he started the other day at the station to farewell the AW adventure weekend :)
