New members -- this one is for you! If you've joined recently, or haven't done this event yet, you can RSVP to this easy-paced late afternoon stroll up Mount Vic and meet some other new faces to Adventure Wellington. Preference will be given to those that have not been on this walk before.
The Plan: We start in front of the Embassy Theatre on Kent Terrace, and walk along Oriental Bay, then up the last part of the Southern Walkway, with great views of the city.
Finally after we make it to the Mount Victoria Lookout we'll have some terrific 360 degree views.
Although the tracks are steep, we would do it on an easy pace with lots of stops to admire the views. The walk will take about two to two and a half hours.
After the walk, those who are interested can come for a customary AW after-event drink, and free platters of food, thanks to one of our great sponsors, The Southern Cross bar!
Difficulty: 2.5/5
Distance: 7 km
Time: 2.5 hours (including 15 minutes at the summit)
What to bring: sturdy shoes, a camera, a good sense of humor, fun attitude, and maybe a walking stick for traversing the steep hills
How to get there: Frequently served by buses (catch a bus going to Courtenay Place) and we will end close to where we started (at the waterfront at Oriental Parade).

haha Sandra, might have to ban u from any future newbie walks, or any other event whereby drinks are involved :p

Was a good walk, the weather could have been better (but the rain made it a unique experience by itself). Hope to do it again in proper weather.
July 16
Actually it was 15 hours. Eugene and Chris gave up early after only 13. I think the "difficulty" rating of this walk should be reassessed.
July 16
Great excuse for a stroll & chat ... Even if the weather didn't quite come to the party!
July 15
Really enjoyed my first meet up event with Adventure Wellington. Everyone was very friendly and the walk was at a steady pace. Thanks Eugene for being an excellent host.

Good that I did not go as the time of this walk was supposed to be 2.5 hours and ended up 13 hours (did someone get lost???) - I would have missed my friends birthday dinner if I had joined you on this one
July 15
What rain.. I did not see any rain!! This was agreat day with lots of newbies..but for some reason this walk just did not stop one very entertaining nite started at the southern cross then we went pub hopping until 4am.. thanks

This was heaps of fun yet again - on a rather drab and dingy day, the Bastille day group of newbies all turned up and shared in a really neat day. Not the greatest day for views of our fab city, but this was a real adventure, that for the last few that were standing, didn't finish till 4am! Ta all for attending.
July 15
@Eugene - Cant today but maybe tomorrow - things to do and a 50th birthday dinner in Petone tonight :(
July 14
@ Robyn, yep, still have more people coming, should give all those coming today and 2mrw 'die hard' status :p - fancy joining us?
July 14
@ Tracey, not sure either what the views will be like either, but regardless, I am sure this will be fun - if the last time I did this walk in this kind of weather is anything to go by - hope you are able to make it still :) gd chance to meet some new ppl and get a bit of fresh air :p
July 14
And there are people still adding there names to the list - these are the true adventurers - only going on a walk if they know the weather will rain and blow
July 14
Not entirely sure what the views will be like today?
July 14
Haha robyn, nobody has pulled out yet - three hours to go - plenty of time left for me to be doing this walk on my own, lol!
July 14
Will the newbies be scared off by the weather or will they prove to be true adventurers???
July 14
