Newbies walk - up to Mount Vic lookout

New members -- if you've joined recently, or haven't done this event, this one is for you! Now that daylight saving has kicked in, this fairly brisk-paced early evening stroll up Mount Vic will give you the perfect opportunity to meet some other new faces to Adventure Wellington. Preference will be given to those that have not been on this walk before.
The Plan: We start in front of the Embassy Theatre on Kent Terrace, and walk along Oriental Bay, then up the last part of the Southern Walkway, with great views of the city.
Finally after we make it to the Mount Victoria Lookout we'll have some terrific 360 degree views.
Although the tracks are steep, and that this walk will be done at a fairly brisk pace there will be lots of stops to admire the views. The walk will take about two hours.
After the walk, those who are interested can come for a customary AW after-event drink, and free platters of food, thanks to one of our great sponsors, The Southern Cross bar!
Difficulty: 2.5/5
Distance: 7 km
Time: 2.5 hours (including 15 minutes at the summit)
What to bring: sturdy shoes, a camera, a good sense of humor, fun attitude, and maybe a walking stick for traversing the steep hills. Also, as we will be going to the Southern Cross afterwards for drinks and free food platters, please bring some form of accepted ID, ie, New Zealand drivers license, or for overseas visitors, something like your passport.
How to get there: Frequently served by buses (catch a bus going to Courtenay Place) and we will end close to where we started (at the waterfront at Oriental Parade).
Important information: A 'no show' rule applies to all AW events, inclusive of this one. Therefore, if you cancel your RSVP after 7pm on the evening before the walk, or do not turn up for the event, you will receive notification of your non-attendance. Please be aware of this. Sorry.

Hi Kelly, we do usually leave on time - depending on how big the group is, I could change the time for later and change the route which will mean not having to walk in the forest at the end - I would suggest signing up, and I will keep you posted on developments.
