Dragon Boat Team - Paddle training (4 of 4)

THIS IS AN EVENT FOR THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN SELECTED FOR THE DRAGON BOAT TEAM.

Technique is significantly more critical that brute strength in Dragon Boat racing and it is critical that the team are coordinated... so we've organised some sessions on paddling technique before we get into the boats for training in January.

We are very privileged to have Sue Jamieson who has agreed to give us a few sessions on paddle technique. Sue has coached Dragon Boat teams since 1996 and won medals at World and National Championships!!!!!!

For these sessions we will be sitting on the edge of a pool and practicing our reach and strokes. Thanks to Dragon Boat Festival organisers who are lending us paddles!

The sessions

These aren't mandatory session - but very desirable and strongly encouraged!! The more you attend, the more practice and advice you get with your technique.

1) Thursday, 6 Dec 6.15am-7.30am

2) Thursday, 13 Dec 6.15am-7.30am

3) Thursday, 20 Dec 6.15am-7.30am

4) Thursday, 10 Jan 6.15am-7.30am

Location

Please note - this is now at the floating wooden platform outside of Fergs!

Arriving on time

Please make sure you arrive before the start time of the session.

What to bring

We will be sitting on the side of the pool but you will get wet through sitting in a puddle and getting splashed. It is also outdoors so make sure you're warm.

  • Some form of padding to sit on - e.g. small square of snow foam / camping ground mat
  • Dry change of clothes / towel etc

Difficulty Level

6/10

This is going to be a good work out!!!

Morning! It is windy, but we are going ahead with the training. We wouldn't obviously go out in s boat in these conditions. But the pontoon is well anchored! See you soon!
