Not So Newbies Sunrise Walk - up to Mt Vic lookout

After the roaring success of last weekend's Sunrise walk, another walk is set for this Saturday, and with the weather forecast suggesting a beaut morning, and to celebrate the first full week of summer, what better way to start the weekend. This event will be weather dependent and for those that sign up, I will bring some baked treats and a thermos of tea.  Afterwards, we will head to the Cambridge hotel for extreme eggs on toast - $2.00 for two eggs on toast, or if you're feeling hungry, try and beat the record of 8 eggs and 8 slices of toast :)

If you're looking for a bright and early start to the day, you can RSVP to this fairly briskly-paced sunrise stroll up Mount Vic and meet some other faces who are part of the Adventure Wellington group.

The Plan:

We start in front of the Embassy Theatre at 5.00am sharp, head up Majoribanks Street, stick on a head torch and walk through the woods and watch the sunrise at (according to the internet) 5.42am from Mount Victoria lookout.

The lookout provides some lovely views overlooking the city and the hills in the west then finally back down to the city in time for eggs on toast ($2), at the Cambridge Hotel, for 8.00am (yes, they are open at this time on Saturday's :).

If you're keen for a brisk paced walk through beautiful natural bush, at this rather unholy hour of the morning, this one is for you!

Time: 3 1/2 hours (tops!)

Difficulty: 5/10 (but could be more difficult, depending on how many eggs you will want to eat :)

Distance: 7kms

What To Bring: Sturdy footwear, a camera, a good sense of humor, fun attitude, a thermos of tea or coffee, a coffee mug, a light snack, tissues, and maybe a walking stick for traversing the steep hills. A wind and waterproof jacket and layers of clothing which you can peel off as you get hot and put on again as you cool and a head torch.

How to get there: Just at the end of Courtenay Place, on Cambridge Terrace, we will end pretty close to where we started (at the Cambridge Hotel on Oriental Parade).

This event will be cancelled if there are adverse weather conditions forecast.

Always fun, even with the sun turning up - going to have to start handing out 'no shows' to the sun for not playing its part :) and congrats to Chris for eating 11 eggs and 10 slices of toast at the extreme eggs event following the walk :)
