If you want to see the Red Rocks, Te Kopahou Reserve, Hawkins Hill, the Wind Turbine, the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary and Central Park all in one day then this is for you!
This event is to plan a route for future AW events and is especially for people who might like to host future walks as well as 2013 trail walkers. There is likely to be stopping and starting and discussing the track along the way too - this is a recon mission after all! Unlike the walk at 12pm the pace throughout this walk will be moderate!
What we’ll be doing: Starting at Island Bay/Red Rocks we make our way along the beach before we turn on to the Te Kopahou Reserve then over Hawkins Hill, and more, until we get to Karori.
At Karori we turn and head mainly along roads taking us through Aro Valley, Central Park and Brooklyn.
This is a loop walk ending back at Island Bay/Red Rocks.
Duration: 7 - 8hours (approx 25km of walking)
Getting there: We'll gather at the car park at intersection Owhiro Bay Parade/Happy Valley Road. Either follow Brooklyn Rd onto Ohiro Rd to the coast or take Adelaide Rd through Newtown all the way to Island Bay and follow the coast around till you get to Owhiro Bay Parade turnoff for Happy Valley. The number one bus will also take you there.
Difficulty: 7/10 a very good level of fitness is required (this is a very long walk and some areas are steep. See FAQ for more info).

What to bring: Wind and waterproof outer, warm clothing (layers as the climate will change a number of times along this walk), something to eat, water and sturdy footwear.
Please note: This is primarily a reconnaissance trip for organizers and AW members interested in hosting this walk in the future and 2013 trail walkers.
