New Years Day "Not So Newbies Sunrise Walk" - up to Mt Vic lookout

To celebrate the first morning of 2013, and after the roaring success of previous Sunrise walks, another walk is set for the 1st of January. With the long range forecast suggesting a better than even chance of good weather, what better way to start the beginning of another year with a sojurn up to the top of Mount Victoria. Whether you are coming straight from New Years Eve celebrations, or have enjoyed a good nights sleep, come and join me for the first AW event of 2013. This event will be weather dependent and for those that sign up, I can guarantee good banter and stunning views should the weather gods be kind to us.

If you're looking for a bright and early start to the day, you can RSVP to this fairly briskly-paced sunrise stroll up Mount Vic and meet some other faces who are part of the Adventure Wellington group.

The Plan:

We start in front of the Embassy Theatre at 5.00am sharp, head up Majoribanks Street, stick on a head torch and walk through the woods and watch the sunrise at (according to the internet) 5.30am-ish from Mount Victoria lookout.

The lookout provides some lovely views overlooking the city and the hills in the west.

If you're keen for a brisk paced walk through beautiful natural bush, at this rather unholy hour of the morning, this one is for you!

Time: 2 hours (tops!)

Difficulty: 5/10 - or even more difficult if you have had no sleep (-:

Distance: 7kms

What To Bring: A good sense of humour and stamina

How to get there: Just at the end of Courtenay Place, on Cambridge Terrace, we will end pretty close to where we started.

This event will be cancelled if there are adverse weather conditions forecast.

AW is up and running for 2013 - great way to see in the new year with a great group of peeps - sterling effort by John and Erin to make it - and happy birthday Jay - enjoy your coming of age - thanks everybody for being as crazy as me to get up at such a ridiculous hour, but so totally worth it - see you all again, same time, same place, next year

Hi everybody, the good news is the walk is still on for tomorrow - there may be some cloud around, but lets hope there's enuf breaks in the cloud for us to be one of the first in the world to see the sun rise in 2013.
