Accelerated Sunset walk - up to Mount Vic lookout

All members  -- this one is for you, although spaces are limited and you will need to be in good shape! Come and join me for a brisk-paced, accelerated late evening walk up to Mount Vic summit to take in the last of the sunshine on what promises to be a stunning evening in the capital.

This walk is open to all, and with the weather forecast suggesting a stunning evening for Monday, you will not be disappointed! Whilst at the top and waiting for the sun to set, there will be time for some hacky sack :-)

Please note - there will be very limited, and only brief stops up to the summit, so be prepared for an accelerated climb - you will need to be in good shape for this one.  The aim is to reach the summit in 30 minutes, and then waiting at the top for the sun to set.  The intention is to head back into the city at around 8.50pm.

The Plan: We start in front of the Embassy Theatre on Kent Terrace, and walk up Majoribanks Street, up some fairly steep slopes, before reaching the summit of the Mount Victoria Lookout. Once at the top we will have time to take in the terrific 360 degree views that are on offer. After waiting for the sun to set,  we will then head down the last part of the Southern Walkway, along Oriental Parade. For those that are keen, we can stop off at Beach Babylon for a quick, light refreshment before parting our ways.  I will not be able to hang around for a drink afterwards - but for any of you signing up, a plan can be devised to meet up somewhere.

This event will be weather dependent - if it looks like rain is in the air, or doesn't warrant the walk up, I will place something in the comments box by 5pm tomorrow.

Difficulty: 3 and a half/5

Distance: 7 km

Time: 1 and a half hours (including 45 minutes at the summit)

What to bring: a torch (it will be a little bit dark on the way down), sturdy shoes, a camera, a good sense of humor, fun attitude, and maybe a walking stick for traversing the steep hills.

How to get there: Frequently served by buses (catch a bus going to Courtenay Place) and we will end close to where we started (at the waterfront at Oriental Parade).

Important information: A 'no show' rule applies to all AW events, inclusive of this one.  Therefore, if you cancel your RSVP after 7pm on the evening before the walk, or do not turn up for the event, you will receive notification of your non-attendance.  Please be aware of this. Sorry.

This will be a fast paced ascent to the top - there will only be one stop/two stops max b4 we reach the summit, and they will only be brief.
