What are We Going to Do?

Experience views of the entire city, Wellington Harbour, the Rimutaka and Tararua ranges, Porirua Basin, Kaikoura ranges and the Tasman Sea. On a clear day you can see the snow-capped Mount Tapuaenuku 2885m on the South Island. We start walking from Simla Crescent car park in Khandallah and end at Karori Park.

With a combination of farm roads, single track, and open grass areas, there is plenty of variety along this relatively long track.

Difficulty:

Longish and exposed walk involving some hill climbing; you need to have a reasonable level of fitness

Duration: 5 hrs of hiking (11km) + lunch/stops

Bring: sturdy footwear, usual daywalking supplies (sun protection, lunch, water, extra clothing for cold and/or rainy conditions) plus money and/or bus/train passes for transport.

How to get there: There's a train station at Simla Crescent.

For those who take their car (as the walk finishes in Karori Park) we will be able to take 3 people back to Simla Crescent after the walk to collect their cars.

RSVPs and Cancellation: We'll check the weather forecast by 8 AM on the day.  If there are any changes, including cancellation, we'll email attendees at that time.

Hi there, can someone send me the info of how to get there and get back by public transportation?
I want to do this track of myself, due to my work schedule I'm usually not free at weekend so figured out it's just easier to go by myself, or maybe a few friends if timing's good for any. But I have no idea of the public transportation, would be highly appreciated if anyone can share the information! Thanks a lot in advance!

Ditto to the requests for a lift back to Khandallah. But if not I'm happy to bus and train it back there anyway

Hi Erin, if you guys are leaving a car in Karori in the morning, could I get a lift from there to the start (I live in Karori)? Failing that, if I drive to the start can I bags a lift back there at the end of the day?
