Newbies early afternoon walk - up to Mount Vic lookout

New members  -- this one is for you! If you've joined recently, or haven't done this event yet, you can RSVP to this brisk-paced early afternoon stroll up Mount Vic and meet some other new faces to Adventure Wellington. Preference will be given to those that have not been on this walk before but is open to all. And with the weather forecast suggesting a stunning afternoon for Sunday, come and join me for the latest newbies walk for 2013.

The Plan: We start in front of the Embassy Theatre on Kent Terrace, and walk up Majoribanks Street, up some fairly steep slopes, before reaching the summit of the Mount Victoria Lookout. Once at the top we will have time to take in the terrific 360 degree views that are on offer. After spending some time at the top,  we will then head down the last part of the Southern Walkway, along Oriental Parade, and then stop off at Beach Babylon for a quick, light refreshment for those that are keen, before parting our ways.

Although the tracks are steep, and that this walk will be done at a fairly brisk pace, there will be lots of stops to admire the views. The walk will take about one and a half hours.

After the walk, those who are interested can come for a customary AW after-event drink, and free curly fries, this time at Beach Babylon on Oriental Parade

Difficulty: 3/5

Distance: 7 km

Time: 2 hours (including 15 minutes at the summit)

What to bring: sturdy shoes, a camera, a good sense of humor, fun attitude, and maybe a walking stick for traversing the steep hills.

How to get there: Frequently served by buses (catch a bus going to Courtenay Place) and we will end close to where we started (at the waterfront at Oriental Parade).

Important information: A 'no show' rule applies to all AW events, inclusive of this one.  Therefore, if you cancel your RSVP after 7pm on the evening before the walk, or do not turn up for the event, you will receive notification of your non-attendance.  Please be aware of this. Sorry.

Fantastic! Couldn't have asked for a better day weather wise, and great to have an amazing group of newbies inaugurated into AW. Big thanks to Dean & Chris for looking after 'tail-end' duties and to Clare for photographs :)
