La Galette des Rois (Kings' Feast)

The Alliance Francaise d’Indianapolis invites you to celebrate La Galette des Rois or King’s Cake Day, a beloved French tradition. It is celebrated all over France and is reminiscent of the biblical tradition of the 3 wise men’s journey bearing gifts after the birth of Jesus. Experience this custom and savor the delicious Galette, a puff pastry cake filled with a buttery smooth mix of almond and pastry cream. Left-over galettes will be available for purchase at the end of the event.

And while you wait to see who is crowned King or Queen of the day, seize the opportunity to explore and have fun with your artistic side: Ten West and The Paint Cellar will provide a 30 min painting class so you can take home your own representation of a French Galette on a 5×7 canvas. Children and adults: $10 per person.

Finally, if you are looking to swap your French books, be sure to participate in our "Foire aux livres" (Book Fair). We'll have a "bring one, pick one" policy: for every French book you bring, you will be able to pick one up and take it home.

We are so sorry to announce that due to the weather the event is postponed. We will announce a new date soon.

For the sweet-tooths out there, we have some galettes for sale today for $20. As it is, we have two pick-up locations: one downtown, and one in Fishers.

I am driving from Columbus (IN) and still plan on attending, unless there are blizzard conditions. In which case, it might be an amusing drive, but that's just me....
En tout cas- a demain, tous!

So far, we are still planning on having the event. If there is a true blizzard downtown and Indianapolis is shut down, then we'll send an email to the list. Stay tuned!

To all event attendees: be sure to participate in our French Book Fair. Bring the French books you no longer want and swap them for new French books you will enjoy reading!

I may not be able to come, as I am very ill right now, and have laryngitis right now. I am hoping to be better soon, but, as I said, this cold/flu may prevent me from going anywhere for awhile.

For last year's Galette des Rois, the AFI also had a French book fair for people interested in trading their French books. Did you like it? Should we have one again this year?

I may not make it to the group tonight as it has been so cold. I really do not want to have to walk 2 blocks to and from my truck in this weather.

I am saying yes to coming on the 5th, but it will depend on the weather. I do not like driving on US 65 when there is snow, ice or sleet.
