FREE HOSTED EXECUTIVE LEARNING NETWORK: 'Give and Take'

We'll be discussing 'Give and Take: A Revolutionary Approach to Success' by Adam Grant at the next Executive Learning Network meeting.

This book builds upon 'Never Lunch Alone' as it describes how helping others can result to greater professional success.  Adam argues that the key is to be an 'intelligent giver' and actively work towards avoiding becoming a doormat.  He gives examples of how 'intelligent giving' has enabled individuals to transform their working lives and those of their wider network.

You can purchase the book from Amazon here: http://btfy.me/jdfc8t.

I'm particularly pleased to be reading 'Give and Take' as it reflects the collective ethos of the Executive Learning Network.  I'm keen to open up a debate on how we can effectively help other people without feeling exploited or becoming burnt out from too much giving.

I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 27th November from 6.00 pm at 5th Floor Restaurant, Waterstones Piccadilly.  Any problems on the day call me on tel: 07525 039429.

Hi Alison, Sorry that you missed out. My two key lessons learned from Wednesday evening were: 1. Remember that you must 'give to yourself' too. Don't exhaust yourself by overgiving and be mindful to take care of yourself through pampering, days out or even meditation and exercise. 2. Accept gifts as a way to honour the 'giver'. Don't play down compliments or thoughtful offers of help. Most people want to be able to 'give' as well as to 'take' so bear this in mind in your relationships.

Here's a link to an article which expands on my second point: http://www.thedailymuse.com/career/just-say-thanks-why-accepting-compliments-is-good-for-your-career/#!

Thanks to Catherine and Dianne for the tips. The next Executive Learning Network meeting is in January. I hope to see some of you there.

    Regards,
    Angela
