Re: [agile-38] New Meetup: Atl Scrum Users Group - Taking it to the next level

a few thoughts/suggestions:

1. Some Intermediate level technique topics (aka Agile 201). For example; User Story Development, Leading a Retrospective, Estimation. We could survey the group topics on interest.
2. A one day low cost ($99) Agile Scrum conference. Similar to what the Local Java User Groups does for Java Developers.
3. Mentoring Program. PMI chapter runs a pretty good Mentoring program. I am just starting it with a couple of folks who are in both Scrum User group and PMI. The commitment is two meeting a month (one usually wrapped around the monthly PMI meeting).
4. Birds of a Feather /Open Space. This could be part of a formal session or a complete Session. Basically, write down a list of topics, folks indicate their interest and congregate in different tables/corners of the room. Folks are free to float between sessions, start new sessions.

In the past the idea has been put forth to have occasional joint activities with Atlanta SPIN. While Agile is a specific process improvement methodology targeted at the development phase of the SDLC, SPIN has a broader focus on all real-life techniques to improve the business value across the SDLC.

This month our speaker will be Mark Sohl, CIO of AutoTrader.com. His message will be valuable to any IT professional - about the importance of building a trusted relationship between IT and the business, and tips to help build that trusted relationship. Did I mention we serve free pizza (meetings are funded by our sponsors)? Signup information is on the home page.

Best regards,

Announcing a new Meetup for Atlanta Scrum Users Group!

What: Atl Scrum Users Group - Taking it to the next level

When: October 13,[masked]:00 PM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

Hi All,

We now have over 280 members in our group, and the numbers continue to grow daily. As I mentioned at our recent meetup, we are at a point where we need to ask the question, "What do we want the group to be (when it grows up)?" To be more specific, are we content to meet once per month, pay $1, have dinner and talk Scrum, OR do we want to do more? I don't mean meet more often and I am not advocating that we try to become the next PMI or APLN, but I think it's appropriate to explore some ideas and allow the group to decide.

I am asking for volunteers to join a special purpose Scrum team to create some proposals for enhancing the group's membership, activities and/or sponsorhip that will be presented to the group in November. I will act as Product Owner, and I have asked Sam Moore to assume the role of ScrumMaster. We need 5-8 volunteers to join as team members.

If you are interested in joining us please RSVP yes for this meetup and contact me at my personal email address [address removed].

Thanks!

Michael
