To celebrate the first ever Confab London content strategy conference (25-27 March 2013 at the Mermaid), we're organising a special Confab Fringe event featuring fantastic talks about content strategy from the Government Digital Service, guest appearances from Confab speakers, and an interactive "gamestorming" activity where we’ll debate our challenges, work with people we haven’t met before, and explore solutions. It’ll be fun and we’ll learn lots.

Our amazing speakers

For this special event we’ll feature short talks from the Government Digital Service plus guest appearances from Confab London speakers.

Neil Williams: On Her Majesty’s Digital Service

Neil Williams is Product Manager for Inside Government, the section of GOV.UK that is replacing the individual websites of all government departments, revolutionising our interactions with the state. Neil will explain how a relentless focus on user needs can give you a licence to kill thousands of redundant web pages.

Leisa Reichelt: Prototyping Content Strategy

Leisa Reichelt a leading user experience practitioner and community organiser. She left the agency and consulting world four years ago to work on finding ways to help start-ups get access to user experience consultancy, and to make some good experiences of her own. She’s presenting on the main stage at Confab London, and tonight she’ll reveal how to practise strategy through prototyping.

Gigi Griffis: Content Strategy with a World-Changing Twist

Gigi Griffis is a content strategist, branding expert, and writer with a special love for travel and tourism, strategic ad agencies, and newbie entrepreneurs. She’s from Denver and is currently travelling around the world as a freelancer. She’s here for Confab London and she’s kindly agreed to present tonight about how a passion for non-profits and ethical marketing landed her in an unexpected niche full of ethically minded for-profits, unique challenges, and projects she never expected (like a competitive analysis on Airbnb listings).

Game-storming group activity

After the talks we’ll split into small groups to discuss the presentations and share our own ideas. Each group will have a facilitator to guide the discussion and introduce a scenario for the group to work on together, culminating in an elevator pitch. You'll have a chance to debate your ideas with the speakers before we report back to the group and share what we’ve learned. Here’s what happened last time:

Really sorry. I think I might have gone about this the wrong way. I don't think I can just give this to you. I have advised organisers that I can no longer go and I think they then release another ticket and you h ave to be really quick off the mark to get the next available ticket.

An article I wrote for The Guardian about the importance of great content for driving sales and some ideas on how to produce it. http://www.guardian.co.uk/small-business-network/2013/mar/14/web-content-online-sales

Aha, I finally understand what content marketing is - so it means retailers stopping the hard sell via editorials and ads and using real, factual content to get to potential customers via blogs, podcasts or videos. Before I read your article I thought 'content marketing' meant 'marketing your content' ie promoting your content
