Community Management, Creativity, and Content Strategy

After January’s sold out Content Strategy Lightning Talks event, we’ll explore the topics of community management and creativity in depth at this meetup, with a combination of full-length presentations, an interactive panel, and the return of “content strategy speed dating” where you’ll get to network, share your experiences, and pepper the speakers with questions at the Mermaid’s bar overlooking the Thames. It’s not just about learning from experts, it’s about sharing your knowledge with your peers as well.

Rob Hinchcliffe: Content Strategy and Community Management

What happens to your content strategy when you're relying on your users to generate that content, and you have no idea when it will appear, what it will look like, and if it will even be any good? Rob will be exploring if it's even possible to have a user-generated content strategy, and what effect things like atomised authorship and crowd-sourced curation are having on content strategists.

We’re delighted to welcome Rob Hinchcliffe, former journalist, founder of Londonist, one-time editorial director of Yahoo News UK, former Community and Development Manager at Qype, and now Community Strategist at strategic digital agency TH_NK.

Randall Snare: Content and Creativity

What does art have to do with content strategy? If you’ve ever put one word in front (or behind) another, the answer is: everything. Randall will explore creativity: what it is, how to do it, what creative endeavors have to do with content—and why that’s important for us. She might also talk about humanity, but only fleetingly.

We’re delighted to welcome Randall Snare, who’s coming all the way from Dublin. Randall grew up in New Orleans, studied English and neuroscience, worked as a writer for Gourmet magazine and The Onion, and is now Content Strategy Lead at iQ Content in Dublin. Randall’s presented at conferences worldwide including Confab (Minneapolis) and Content Strategy Forum (Paris), and she co-organised the Content Strategy Forum 2011 in London. She blogs at Mapped.

Great format - two very different and interesting presentations followed by a fishbowl session and speed dating that provided an opportunity to meet lots of people who enjoy talking about content as much as I do!

I had a good time, might have preferred bit longer presentations tough.

Friendly bunch of people. I think I would have preferred 'speed dating' to allow us to mix between different groups, rather than all move from 1 table to the next.

Even the way in which the presentations were put together inspired creativity. Has given me more motivation to find/make the tools I need to listen to clients' communities so that together we can improve their experience of the content.

It was a great evening - very insightful to have so many web-oriented people from different backgrounds in one space, will definitely be booking up for the next one!

Disappointed to be talked at and told what to do in the first presentation. Hearing from the speaker that he had no idea who was in the audience immediately said his presentation would not have been tailored to suit the delegates. And that then became obvious. THis style of "do this" and "don't do that" is not a presentation style people respond to. Nor is a presentation where "wankey" and "marketing" are used in the same sentence. I'm sure there were marketers other than myself and my business partner in the audience who also wouldn't have appreciated this. Honestly, I learned nothing from this first session.
In terms of the event organisation in advance it would help to be informed as to what the aim of speed dating is - to discuss a topic? To meet others? To pitch yourself? I'm all for events promoting interaction - but prefer to know more about how and why.
It would also be helpful to be able to sift through attendees on the group website a little more easily.

Great speakers and panel. Sorry I couldn't stay for the "speed dating". The venue was the only disappointment.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
