We’re delighted to welcome US presenter and author Sara Wachter-Boettcher to to talk about topics from her new book, Content Everywhere, published by Rosenfeld Media. She’ll be joined by our own Cleve Gibbon, marketing technologist and CMS expert, who’ll be discussing his concept of content architecture. With a combination of two fantastic full-length presentations, an interactive “fish-bowl” panel, and our popular “content strategy speed dating” activity where you get to network, share your experiences, and pepper the speakers with questions over a glass of wine (or orange juice). It isn’t just about learning from experts, it’s also about sharing what you know with your peers.

Sara Wachter-Boettcher: Content Everywhere
Responsive. Adaptive. Mobile first. Cross-channel. Everywhere you turn, web workers are chattering about a more flexible future. There’s only one little flaw: our content’s not ready for the party. Fixed firmly to inflexible pages, today’s content is stuck in meaningless blobs that break long before they bend.
We can't keep creating more content for every new device and channel. Instead, we need content that does more for us—content that can travel and shift with its meaning and message intact.
In this talk, we’ll start making content go further by discussing:
- Why adding structure actually makes content more flexible
- How to keep relationships and priorities intact as layout and display shift
- What you can do today—without starting from scratch
- How folks in IA, UX, design, and development—as well as content strategy—can help make this happen
Cleve Gibbon: Defining Content Architecture
When you’re building your content strategy, how do you plan for execution? Which channels are you publishing to, and who’s going to use them? Who’s responsible for the day-to-day care of all this content after you’ve implemented the strategy, and which business units do they work for?
Execution is more than just a CMS—and to do it effectively, we need content architecture.
Cleve will explain how content architecture can help. He’ll share some of his tactics and war stories where he’s helped define content architectures for clients like Skype, Investec, Roche, and Virgin Media—organizations coming to terms with being multi-channel digital publishers.
About speed dating
For the speed dating activity, we'll split into random groups based on the number on our name badges, for four rapid discussion sessions at four "stations" around the Hub. Two of the stations will be clinics with our speakers Sara and Cleve, and the other two will be "gamestorming" sessions run by Jonathan and Richard (the organisers.) You'll stay with the same group throughout the activity—this isn't about meeting everyone in the room (that would be impossible), but about interacting with people you haven't met before, and hopefully starting some new relationships.
